Euro 2024 Betting Preview: The Favourites
Thanks to the ever-shifting landscape of European football, it’s anybody’s guess who’ll lift the trophy at the 2024 UEFA European Championship. Here’s a look at the bookies’ current favourites.
Germany
With their last Euros success way back in 1996, Germany will be hoping 2024 brings an end to the dry spell — the bookies think it might, placing the team as favourites to win. Previously lifting the trophy in 1972, 1980, and 1996, a Euro 2024 success would see Germany clinch the record for most titles over Spain.
Currently managed by Hansi Flick, the team is known for its disciplined style of play based around a strong midfield and defence. That said, 2020 saw Germany’s worst performance at the Euros, getting knocked out in the round of 16 after a 2–0 defeat by England. Key players include Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, and Timo Werner.
France
As 2018 World Cup Champions and runners up in 2022, France are undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with. With superstars like Mbappé, Griezmann, and Pogba among the ranks, the team boasts a dynamic style of play combining skill, speed, and creativity in the final third.
France currently sits on two Euros wins in 1984 and 2000, and finished as runners up in 2016. They didn’t fare so well in 2020, losing to Switzerland on penalties in the round of 16.
Didier Deschamps remains at the helm, having extended his contract until June 2026.
England
After a heartbreaking penalties loss to Italy in the 2020 UEFA European Championship final, England will be hoping to score their first Euros trophy in 2024. It’s certainly a possibility thanks to a glut of talent including names like Kane, Sterling, Saka, Rashford, Grealish, and Foden. The team’s defence is also solid thanks to the likes of John Stones, Kyle Walker, and Luke Shaw.
Despite murmurs of Gareth Southgate resigning following the 2022 World Cup, he remained in position as England’s manager and will lead their campaign at Euro 2024.
Spain
Spain’s historic success at the Euros puts them in good stead to pick up a win in 2024. They’re the only team to have won back-to-back tournaments (2008 and 2012) and are tied with Germany for total wins (3).
Currently managed by Luis de la Fuente following Luis Enrique’s retirement after the 2022 World Cup, the Spanish team is renowned for its intricate passing style of play known as ‘tiki-taka’. With legendary players like Ramos and Busquets recently exiting international football, the eyes are on promising young talents Pedri and Ansu Fati.
Italy
Rounding out the top five favourites are defending champions Italy, a team with a storied history at the Euros. Prior to their penalties success against England in the 2020 final, the team had only lifted the trophy once before in 1968. But with four wins at the World Cup, nobody can doubt Italy’s prowess in international football.
Emphasising teamwork and tactical awareness in their gameplay, the Italian team is full of experience in the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Lorenzo Insigne, and Marco Verratti. On top, younger player Gianluigi Donnarumma made headlines at Euro 2020 as the first goalkeeper to officially pick up Player of the Tournament. Roberto Mancini has managed the team since 2018.

Other Euro 2024 Outright Betting Markets
Confident you know which player will outperform the rest in their respective position? Euro 2024 outrights like top goalscorer or best goalkeeper are other exciting bets settled at the culmination of the tournament.
Of course, it’s not simply about who’s the best on an individual level. Teams that survive into the later rounds will see more opportunities to increase their tallies. Likewise, a stronger team could dominate their weakest opposition in the group stage, padding out their striker’s total goals. It’s therefore worth considering the tournament bracket alongside player form if you want to make a savvy bet.
Top Goalscorer (Golden Boot)
The Golden Boot is awarded to the player that scores the most goals during the tournament — although a new trophy was unveiled at the most recent Euros, taking the shape of the Chinese character 'æ¯' (pronounced zhi).
Cristiano Ronaldo bagged the prize in 2020 with five goals and one assist, bettering his 2016 performance as runner-up to Antoine Griezmann. Other past recipients include Fernando Torres in 2012, David Villa in 2008 — and who could forget Alan Shearer’s Golden Boot win in 1996?
Player of the Tournament (Golden Ball)
The Golden Ball is awarded to the best player of the tournament, as decided by UEFA’s team of Technical Observers. Gianluigi Donnarumma was the first goalkeeper to officially win the award, keeping three clean sheets, making nine saves, and conceding only four goals in seven appearances at Euro 2020.
Best Goalkeeper
UEFA itself doesn’t hand out a Golden Glove award to the best goalkeeper — unfortunately for Jordan Pickford, who kept the most clean sheets in 2020. But you’ll still be able to bet on which player will keep the most shots out of the net at the best Euros betting sites.
Young Player of the Tournament
First awarded in 2016, Young Player of the Tournament is given to the best player aged 21 or below at the start of the calendar year. Renato Sanches picked up the inaugural title, and 2020 saw the baton handed to Pedri.
England’s very own Jude Bellingham — who’ll celebrate his 20th birthday midway through the tournament — has the potential to win the award in 2024.
