Betfred Welcome Offer Terms & Conditions
As with any bonus, the Betfred welcome offer comes with terms and conditions that dictate how it works and what exactly you need to do in order to successfully claim it. Here are the key takeaways from their sign up offer.
- Verification: You must be successfully verified by Betfred before you receive your free bets. This is done by providing Betfred with the necessary documents, such as a passport/driver’s license or a copy of a utility bill, that prove that you are who you say you are and that you live where you say you do. Betfred may need a few hours or a couple of days to view and approve your documents to make sure everything is in order.
- Minimum deposit: A minimum deposit of £10 is required and this must be paid by debit card only.
- Qualifying bet: The first bet you place must be for at least £10 and before placing it, customers must bear in mind the restrictions set out in the Ts and Cs. This means that it must be struck at odds of 2.0 or greater and must be settled within the first 7 days of opening your account. You cannot use it to bet on virtual sports or Totepool, nor can you use any other free bets you may have been awarded to place it. Cashing Out the qualifying bet will prevent you from qualifying for the Betfred welcome offer.
- Expiry: Free bets expire if they’re not used within 7 days of being issued.
- No returns or cash exchanges: The free bet stakes are not returned with winnings, only any profits from it. The free bets are not cash so cannot be withdrawn without being wagered.
Do you Require a Promo Code to Claim your Betfred Sign Up Offer?
Unlike many betting sites in the UK, there is a Betfred promo code required to claim the offer. Customers are required to enter the promo code during registration. It is possible to add it after registering too, provided that you haven’t yet made your first deposit.

Betfred Existing Customer Promotions and Regular Offers
Besides the initial Betfred free bets, this bookmaker has lots of regular offers and promotions too. Here are some of the current offers you can expect:
Acca Flex
Acca Flex gives you up to 100% extra, paid in cash, on winning pre-match football accas made up of 5 or more legs, each one at minimum odds of 1/2.
If you place the minimum number of legs (5) you’ll get an extra 2.5% if your acca goes on to win; if you place the maximum number of legs (20), you’ll get an extra 100%.
Alternatively, if just one leg lets you down, you can also get a refund of up to £10. This is also available on pre-match accas with 5 or more selections and only picks from the following football markets are eligible:
- Match Result
- Both Teams to Score
- Match Result & Both Teams to Score
- Half-Time/Full-Time
- Total Goals Over/Under
- Match Result & Total Goals Over/Under
- Correct Score
- Double Chance
- 1st Half Over/Under.
Double Delight & Hat-trick Heaven
This offer gives you double or triple the odds when you place a winning first goalscorer bet and the player you backed goes on to score for a second (double the odds) or third time (triple the odds). However, customers should note that the offer is only available for selected matches, not all matches. There are normally one or two matches a day the offer applies to during the week, increasing to three a day over the weekend.
Money back as a free bet on horse racing
If your horse comes second or 3rd on selected races, you are given a free bet of up to £10 to use on horse racing.
Betfred customers should again note that the offer only applies to selected international races - generally two a day - and that any free bets awarded must be placed on international racing, too.
Best odds guaranteed
This promotion applies to selected UK horse racing and greyhound events, so make sure that you check which specific races are eligible for Best Odds Guaranteed. Whatever odds you placed your bet at and whatever odds the Starting Price was, you’ll get paid out at the best odds out of the two. There’s no limit on how much extra you can receive as a result of the offer.
How does Betfred’s New Customer Offer Compare with Other Bookmakers?
Whenever I’m looking for new customer offers, I always check out how they compare to other bookmakers to know if I’m getting a good deal. Here’s how Betfred’s welcome offer compares to its competitors.
For me, this is one of the best value-for-money welcome offers doing the rounds at the moment.

Our Betfred Review
Betfred has been around since 1967 and if the year it was formed reminds you of a particularly important year in the history of English football, then that’s no coincidence. Founder and current Chairman Fred Done placed a big bet on England to win the 1966 World Cup on home soil and used his winnings to open up his first-ever bricks-and-mortar betting shop the following year. The business has since expanded exponentially over the next decades and it was one of the first major betting sites to go online in 2004.
For years Fred Done was known as the ‘Bonus King’ as a result of the company’s policy of paying out early on high-profile bets such as the winner of the Premier League, that hadn’t yet won, and which in some cases, didn’t go on to win at all! They were also one of the first betting companies to truly embrace the concept of online sports betting bonuses, something which didn’t exist in the pre-internet days.
Though Betfred still go the extra mile to make sure they maintain their reputation as the ‘Bonus King’ with plenty of frequent, varied and good-value offers, there’s a lot more to them than just paying out early and offering regular promos
Beyond the welcome offer and ongoing promos we’ve already discussed, they also cover all the sports people want to bet on, offering plenty of markets, and competitive odds on them. Though the average odds are already decent, daily Price Boosts help you get even better prices on certain selections, so that’s very much a positive.
The secret to their success is to run a Sportsbook that does the lot by covering every base that customers want in 2024.
By that we mean they’ve kept up to date with the times and have pretty much all of the modern-day features such as: Cash Out, live streaming, Best Odds Guaranteed, the ability to request a bet, Bet Builders and an excellent blog full of useful insight and knowledgeable betting tips.
It attracted some negative headlines back in 2016 for failing to adhere to its own anti-money laundering and social responsibility policies, which included allowing (a since jailed) Betfred customer to place numerous bets using stolen funds. This offence resulted in a £800,000 fine for Betfred, which was to be used to fund contributions towards socially responsible causes.
But that aside, their reputation is generally very positive, whether it’s their online business, the 1600+ land-based bookmaker shops or their presence at over 50 different racecourses.
Betfred Pros and Cons
To summarise what we like about this site, here are its pros and cons:
Positives
- Betfred is highly reputable as a UK bookmaker with almost 60 years of experience in the business.
- Welcome Offer is one of the best around.
- Numerous good-value ongoing offers including Best Odds Guaranteed.
- You can watch sports via live streaming provided you have a cash balance of at least £1.
- Cash Out and Bet Builder products work well.
- Excellent blog with insights, analysis and tips across several sports.
- Good Virtual Sports product with special bonuses available for it.
Negatives
- The sign up offer is only available for those making payments by debit card.
- The payment options are limited.
- Don’t offer eSports betting.
- Most promos are around football and racing rather than all sports.
Betfred Key Sportsbook Features: What Makes Signing Up Worthwhile?
As you may have realised already, Betfred has many positive aspects, including its sign up offer.
But you can only claim the sign-up offer once and it’s far more important to focus on what there is to like about Betfred in the long run, since signing up to a bookie is a commitment for months or years, rather than just a few days.
Here are some of its best features that certainly make opening an account here worthy of your time and money.
In-play betting
Betfred has a huge number of in-play betting options to explore. These include football, tennis, basketball, golf, snooker, volleyball, and more. The in-play betting page is easy and quick to navigate, so you can make fast decisions and place bets quickly. Another positive is how quickly they update their live odds after the market is suspended.
There’s also the option to cash out your bets, which makes for a great way to take a guaranteed profit (or cut your losses).
Live streaming
In addition to in-play betting, bettors have the option to watch sports events live. Unlike some bookmakers who require a bet to be placed before live streaming becomes available, all Betfred requires is a balance of 1GBP.
Customer Service and Support
Betfred has an extensive support section. The help desk has a range of sections each supporting various FAQs you might have about any aspect of the site and your account. There is also an accessible ‘contact us’ section that doesn’t require you to jump through hoops before you can speak to a person. There is 24/7 live chat, a customer support telephone number, and an email address.
Betfred Insights Blog
With the brand name Betfred Insights, their blog previews the major sporting events of the day across the likes of football, horse racing and greyhound racing, golf, cricket and some of the more high-profile Entertainment and politics betting markets, too. The authors at the blog are some of the best-known betting writers in the industry. They offer some excellent betting tips and many boast very solid long-term profits. But even if you don’t want to directly follow their tips, their insight and analysis is definitely worth a read, so you can make your own betting decisions.
Best Odds Guaranteed and Odds Boosts mean bigger payouts
The average Betfred odds are already very decent but you can improve them further. One way is to take advantage of their Best Odds Guaranteed promise on selected races. Another is to place bets at Boosted Odds, which are mostly available on football but also other sports like cricket and golf.
Sports You Can Bet On at Betfred
It’s true that some other betting sites might offer some under-the-radar sports that Betfred don’t, such as surfing, lacrosse or hurling. But it’s also true that all the major ones are available here, including:

What Betting Markets are Available on Betfred?
Betfred has a huge range of betting markets across its many sports. Here are some of the most popular ones.
- Outrights
- Match results (1x2)
- Goals/points
- Over/under
- Correct score
- Both teams to score (BTTS)
- Handicap
- Half-time result
- Double chance
- Draw no bet
- Win both halves
- Double chance
- Point Spread
- First Goalscorer/To Score Anytime/To Score a hat-trick
- Tennis set betting
- Cricket Top Bowler/Top Batsman.

In addition to the betting markets themselves, Betfred also allow you to place different types of bets.
That includes each-way betting on the likes of horse racing, greyhound racing and on golf tournaments. Or Bet Builders on football. Or special bets like Lucky 15, trixes or Yankees.
Banking With Betfred
When you’re making online transactions, it’s important to be able to use a payment option that provides the functionality and security you need. Thankfully, Betfred has a range of banking options.
Though not quite as extensive as some other bookmakers, pretty much all of the main and most obvious payment options are available here. That said, we do note the absences of the likes of Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Boku.
Remember that in order to be able to claim the Betfred Welcome Offer, you’ll need to make your first deposit using a debit card. So as much as we think there’s plenty to like about such payment methods as PayPal and Skrill in terms of speed, anonymity and ease of use, it’s going to have to be the debit card for your initial deposit.
You can of course switch to another one of your choice after that very first one.
Betfred Deposit Methods
Here are the available deposit methods for Betfred customers.
Just so you know, if you were to make more than one deposit in the space of 24 hours with either Skrill or Neteller, you’d be charged 2.9% of the value of the deposit.
But the first deposit over a day is free of charge, hence why we haven’t included it in the table.
Deposit Method | Fee | Processing Time | Limits |
---|---|---|---|
Visa | £0 | Instant | £5.00/- |
Mastercard | £0 | Instant | £5.00/- |
Skrill | £0 | Instant | £5.00/- |
Neteller | £0 | Instant | £5.00/ |
PayPal | £0 | Instant | £5.00/- |
Paysafecard | £0 | Instant | -/- |
Betfred Withdrawal Methods
Betfred offers the same payment methods for withdrawals and you will typically have to withdraw using the same method as your deposit. Withdrawals to Paysafecard are not possible so you will have to withdraw with an alternative method such as to a debit card, if you used Paysafecard to make the initial deposit.
Betfred isn’t among the fastest withdrawal betting sites, but it still is fairly quick.
The Betfred withdrawal time depends on the method chosen. E-wallets are the quickest method for withdrawals, taking no more than 48 hours for you to get your funds while withdrawals to debit cards can take a bit longer: between 1-3 days.
Withdrawal Method | Fee | Withdrawal Time | Limits |
---|---|---|---|
Visa | £0 | Processed within 1-3 Days. | £5 |
Mastercard | £0 | Processed within 1-3 Days. | £5 |
Skrill | £0 | Processed within 48 hours | £5 |
Neteller | £0 | Processed within 48 hours | £5 |
PayPal | £0 | Processed within 48 hours | £5 |
Does Betfred have a Mobile App?
There is a Betfred app available for both iOS and Android. Both are (obviously) free to download.
The Android version is rated 4.2/5 from 9k ratings and has been downloaded over one million times! The iOS app currently has a rating of 4.3/5.
In the interest of fairness, I tried both and had no issues with either. Both apps are comparable to the mobile site and desktop site, and all of the features are available too.
That includes being able to stream live events, read their blog, place bets and take advantage of their promos with the help of notifications about them, which you can receive directly via the mobile app.
Responsible Gambling Features
Like all good bookmakers, Betfred is strong on promoting Responsible Gambling (RG) or as they prefer to call it: safer gambling. The brand has its own acronym: SAFE, which stands for Spend, Activity, Frequency, and Emotion. These are its four RG pillars and all of its responsible gambling information is based on this. Here are some of the ways in which it promotes and implements Responsible Gambling on its site:
- Great on-site content about their SAFE pillars including short, snappy but informative home-made videos.
- Self-assessment questionnaire to see if you may have a gambling problem that needs to be addressed.
- Section on how to spot the signs if a friend or family member may be gambling irresponsibly.
- Introduction and explanation of the following RG Tools: deposit limits, Time Out, Reality Check and Self-Exclusion.
- Availability of the four RG tools just mentioned.
- Guide, contact details and links to charitable organisations you can contact for Support if you feel you need it, such as Gamble Aware, Gamcare and Gamblers Anonymous.
Is Betfred a Trustworthy and Safe Brand?
Betfred has an excellent reputation. According to the website, more than 800,000 active customers are using the online site and a further 1,350 betting shops in the UK too. Besides being a strong name in the UK and Ireland, the sportsbook is also available in 10 U.S. states and South Africa.
Betfred is a safe and recommended brand. It is licensed and regulated by the UKGC.
As we know, the UKCG license is the hardest to obtain and also the hardest to keep. Holding it is a guarantee that: the site operates with top-level encryption and security which protects your money and your data from hackers and other fraudsters, that they pay out your winnings without unnecessary complications and delays, and that if you have an issue with them, you can take it to Independent Betting Adjudication Service (IBAS) for resolution.
We’ve already discussed how they were heavily fined in 2016 for failing to carry out adequate anti-money laundering practices. And there was another instance in 2019 where they were found guilty (and fined) for not carrying out adequate ‘source of funds’ checks in a similar case where a different customer stole money, deposited it at Betfred, played it, and lost it.
However, given how long they've been in business for and the number of active customers they have worldwide, these must be considered somewhat isolated incidents rather than a sign of a greater malaise. These two cases aside, they are generally considered an ethical, trustworthy and safe brand.

Betfred Customer Service
The level of customer service (CS) at Betfred is excellent. Whether you use live chat, email, or phone support, the team is friendly and aims to please.
I found the agents to be helpful, knowledgeable and resourceful, meaning I could have my queries answered adequately.
That said, most of the time you can avoid being in touch with CS entirely by referring to their Help Centre which has a dedicated section with relevant FAQS for: Registration, My Account, Withdrawals and Deposits, Account Verification and Cash Out, among others. You’ll be surprised by how much time and effort you can save by always checking out their Help Centre before contacting CS.

Our Experience Using Betfred
Some bookies decide to take something of a niche approach to betting.
They may call themselves ‘King of Mobile betting’, the ‘home eSports betting’ or the ‘top dogs for live betting’ or something along those lines. Not only are those sorts of statements not always necessarily true but they’re also missing the point.
The best betting sites aren’t the ones that do one thing brilliantly while neglecting other elements; the best betting sites are the ones that tick all of the most important boxes, while excelling in one area or another.
Which brings me to Betfred. They may be known as the ‘Bonus Kings’ but there’s far more to them than just that. They’re the real deal in terms of offering you a great experience, a fair chance at winning money and almost all of the most sought-after extras you find at the top Sportsbooks these days.
For starters, the Welcome Offer is one of the best around. You get 5x the value of your qualifying bet in free bets and there are no wagering requirements on winnings from them.
A good range of offers to existing customers continues in the form of: boosts on winning accas and insurance on losing accas, money back offers on racing, Odds Boosts and of course, the Best Odds Guarantee on selected horse racing, among others.
All the major sports are covered, there are plenty of different markets across them and the odds are very fair, if not necessarily market-leading.
I placed bets on my two favourite sports- football and cricket - both pre-match and in-play and found both the site and mobile app quick and easy to use and was impressed by how quickly they updated live odds after suspending the market. I even live-streamed a football match while I was betting in-play and found the quality of the pictures to be excellent.
That match also gave me an opportunity to test out their Cash Out product and I was pretty impressed with it as a product, and the generosity of the offers I was getting.
So if those are positives, what can they improve on? Not much, to be honest.
Fans of Esports betting may be a little disappointed they can’t bet on them here and the same goes for those who like wagering on some of the more niche sports like bowls, speedway or fishing, none of which are available here.
If we’re really splitting hairs, you could say there’s no good reason why deposits have to be made with a debit card to be eligible for the Welcome Offer. Or that it might be nice to have some offers based around some sports other than racing and football.
But that really is about it. Because they do everything else extremely well and are one of the best all-round bookies on the market.
