Who Are The Favourites To Be the Next James Bond?
Marvel star Aaron Taylor-Johnson is believed to be the role's frontrunner, with several outlets linking him towards the close of 2022.
Henry Cavill was long believed to be the targeted figure to succeed Daniel Craig, dominating newsfeeds on the topic. In mid-December news broke that he had been dropped in his role as Superman, which has only fuelled rumours that Boned could be next in the pipeline, with his odds shortening as a result.
Other contenders include Bridgerton breakout star Rege Jean-Page, the BAFTA nominated James Norton, London Academy graduate Chiwetel Ejiofor, the Downton Abbey famed Dan Stevens, everybody's favourite rugged Brit Tom Hardy, and the ever popular Idris Elba among a seemingly endless list of names.
Who Has Played James Bond Before?
Since the character's big screen debut in 1962's Dr. No, audiences have enjoyed 25 outings of 007 action. During this time six different actors have stepped into the famous Aston Martin.
Sean Connery provided the first, and in many people's opinion, the most iconic version of James Bond. The Scottish-born originator starred in six films, enjoying his final appearance as the character following a solitary performance by George Lazenby in On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
The longest-serving 007 remains Roger Moore who occupied the role from 1973-1985; holstering the Walther PPK on seven different occasions.
Timothy Dalton's two-film run initiated the character's longest hiatus before Pierce Brosnan assumed responsibilities in 1995's GoldenEye. That casting only withstood four movies as Daniel Craig replaced him in 2006's reboot Casino Royale.
Lazenby is the youngest Bond to date at age 29 during the filming of his only outing. Moore is the man on the opposite end of the scale, playing 007 between his years of 45 all the way to 57!
Calls for diversity could shake up the usual patterns for casting, with fans wanting to see a James Bond of colour, or even a female 007.
Who is Offering Odds On the Next James Bond?
The market has opened up a lot more as time has passed. Daniel Craig made it known in September 2021 that No Time To Die would be his swan song as Bond, claiming that his exit was necessary for both the franchise and his acting career.
