Which Country to Bet on at Euro 2024
As with all sports betting, you’ll need to look beyond personal preference when selecting a team to win the Euros. Past performances at major tournaments, recent form, and managers selecting the right players – these are the factors that will most influence Euro 2024 odds.
Let’s take a look at the five favourites to win the Euros.
France
France has been dominant in international football for a number of years. Les Bleus have been managed by Didier Deschamps for over a decade, providing consistency in selection, style and success. France won the World Cup in 2018 and were runners-up in Qatar four years later. They haven’t won the Euros since 2000, and Deschamps and his players will be eager to convert their dominance into a European trophy. The squad is littered with talent: Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga, the Hernandez brothers, and the world’s current best player, Kylian Mbappe.
England
Gareth Southgate has almost broken the mould of converting English promise into silverware. His side have reached the latter stages of the last two World Cups, as well as the final of the 2020 Euros, which they lost on penalties to Italy. English fans are divided by this relative success and Southgate’s conservative approach; in recent times his squad and team selections have drawn accusations of favouritism and misplaced loyalty. Nevertheless, he possesses a squad of abundant talent. At present it includes superstar midfielder Jude Bellingham, Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Kyle Walker and John Stones, plus captain Harry Kane. Both France and England can be backed as favourites to win the Euros at a best price of 9/2.
Germany
Current Euro 2024 odds have hosts Germany as the third favourites at a best price of 7/1. These are surprising odds given Germany’s recent turmoil. They’ve failed to progress out of the last two World Cup group stages, and back-to-back home defeats to Colombia and Japan – sandwiched between other disappointing results – cost Hansi Flick his job in September. Julian Nagelsmann has been brought in to improve Germany’s current position of 15th in the FIFA rankings. He’ll be relying on Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane, Serge Gnabry, Joshua Kimmich, and the effervescent Jamal Musiala. Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is another young player to watch.
Spain
The current Spain side is a far cry from the team that won three international tournaments in a row from 2008-12, but they can still be backed at 8/1 to win the Euros. These days, Spanish hopes are largely pinned on the quality of their young players: Gavi, Pedri and Ansu Fati are all 20-years-old or younger, while Granada’s Bryan Zaragoza has made an exciting start to his La Liga career at 22. Manager Luis de la Fuente has coached Spain’s younger sides since 2013, working with the majority of players in the squad for a number of years.
Portugal
The best price for Portugal to win the Euros comes from SBK at 21/2. Portugal’s only Euros success came in 2016, beating France 1-0 after extra-time in the final. Captain Cristiano Ronaldo is now the most prolific goalscorer in international men’s football, notching his 127th goal in the latest round of qualifiers. Roberto Martinez is the current manager – he failed to take Belgium’s golden generation to success, and might be considered fortunate to land another major international job. Ruben Dias, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes, Joao Felix and Joao Palhinha are some of their star players.
European Championship Winners
The likes of Spain and Germany have both won the European Championships three times - more than any other country.
France have won it twice and were denied a third title back in 2016 when Portugal upset the odds to beat them in extra-time of the final on home soil.
No other country has won the prestigious international tournament more than once, however; take a look at the rest of the winners below.
- 3 - Spain - 1964, 2008, 2012
- 3 - Germany - 1972, 1980, 1996
- 2 - Italy - 1968, 2021
- 2 - France - 1984, 2000
- 1 - USSR - 1960
- 1 - Czech Republic - 1976
- 1 - Portugal - 2016
- 1 - Netherlands - 1988
- 1 - Denmark - 1992
- 1 - Greece - 2004
World Rankings of European Teams
The current Top-20 World Rankings of European Teams features France as the highest-placed country from the continent up in 3rd following their run to the 2022 World Cup Final.
Belgium are next in the running in 4th, followed by England (5th) and Netherlands (6th), while Croatia (7th), Italy (8th), Portugal (9th), and Spain (10th) complete the Top-10.

Euro 2024 In-Play Betting
The majority of football betting fans engage in in-play betting – the action of placing wagers on live games. Live betting allows punters to take advantage of real-time knowledge, making predictions on the action based on the patterns and momentum of the game.
All of our bookmakers run a multitude of in-play betting markets. The odds on these markets will fluctuate with each passing minute, as players receive bookings, accrue fouls, have shots on goal, and build sustained pressure on their opponents.
For savvy in-play bettors, these wagers offer the opportunity to make more accurate predictions – predictions based on the moving parts of the game itself. Betting sites also aid this decision-making process by presenting in-game statistics alongside their live betting markets.
