How does the seeding work in the Champions League groups?
There are four seeded pots for the Champions League group stage. Pot 1 includes the holders, Europa League winners and the champions of the six highest-ranked nations. Pots 2 to 4 are determined by the club coefficient rankings. No team can play a club from their own association, E.G. There cannot be two English clubs in the same Champions League group.
How many teams qualify from the Champions League groups?
Two from each group - the winner and the runner-up (16 in total). The third-placed team from every group will then fall into the Europa League at the first knockout phase (round of 32), where they'll face the competition's best sides in a bid to win the tournament and earn qualification into the following season's Champions League. This season, the likes of Inter Milan, Olympiacos, Bayer Leverkusen, Benfica and Ajax all dropped into the Europa League after finishing third in their respective UCL groups.
