Championship Winner 2023/24 Betting
Competition looks tight for the new campaign and the bookmakers have expectedly priced all three newly relegated teams at the top of the list to be crowned 2023/24 champions.
Leicester are the favourites at around 6/1, while Leeds can be backed at 7/1 and Southampton not too far behind in the region of 10/1 - just like Middlesbrough who were knocked out of last season's play-offs by finalists Coventry City.
Sunderland, who many believe punched above their weight during the previous campaign, are judged to be outsiders at 20/1. Ahead of them are Norwich at 14/1 and Watford and West Brom at 16s.
Championship Promotion 2023/24 Betting
Leicester (15/8), Leeds (2/1) and Southampton (3/1) are all heavily favoured to follow in Burnley, Sheffield United and Luton Town's footsteps from last term.
Away from the teams to have just rejoined the division, play-off semi-finalists Middlesbrough are the next shortest price at 10/3 for promotion.
Norwich, West Brom, Watford, Ipswich Town and Stoke City are between 9/2 and 6/1 in the betting, while last season's finalists Coventry City are priced at 8/1 to achieve what they could not last time around.
Championship Relegation 2023/24 Betting
Ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, Rotherham, Reading, and Birmingham were the three teams favoured for relegation from the English second tier.
After 46 games, Reading would go on to lose their Championship status, as would Wigan and Blackpool - meaning only one of the three tipped teams suffered this fate.
This term, newly-promoted Plymouth Argyle are the favourites to drop straight back down at 13/8. Joining them at this end of the betting are Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town at 15/8 and 11/4 respectively.
Slightly further adrift, Birmingham, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday all range from 3/1 to 4/1 to enter League One.
Championship Top Scorer 2023/24 Betting
Last season, Norwich's Teemu Pukki was the ante-post favourite to scoop the 2022/23 Championship Top Scorer award. However, it was Middlesbrough striker Chuba Akpom who won the Golden Boot after he scored 28 goals in 38 appearances.
Coventry City's Viktor Gyökeres finished second with 21 goals on the board, followed by Carlton Morris (Luton) who ended the campaign just a goal behind him.
For the 2023/24 campaign, Leicester City strikers Patson Daka and Jamie Vardy lead the way to accrue the most Championship goals at 10/1 in the market. Last season's danger man Chuba Akpom, other Foxes forward option Kelechi Iheanacho and Swansea's Joel Piroe follow closely behind.
Championship Match Betting Markets
Below is a list of just some of the Championship betting markets available at UK bookmakers:
- Match result – Simply pick a win for the home side, the away side, or a draw.
- Both teams to score – The Championship is known for its unpredictability, particularly during the play-offs, which makes both teams to score an attractive betting market.
- Match result & both teams to score – This market requires bettors to combine the two above under the same bet slip. For the bet to win, both parts of the wager must come in.
- Correct score – Going one further than the match result is the precise score at the full-time whistle.
- Anytime goalscorer – The Championship’s leading marksmen will be the safest bets in this market, in which you select a player to score at any time in the match.
- First goalscorer – Who will score the game’s first goal? Make your prediction in this market.
- Player to be carded – Is Ipswich Town’s Sam Morsy up to the pace of the game? If not a punt on him to receive a yellow card might be a good shout.
- Player shots/Shots on target – When one of the league’s stronger sides faces off against one of the weaker, a wager on a particular player to have a total number of shots could be interesting. For longer odds, the shots on target market makes things a little trickier.
- Over/under goals – In the over/under market, bettors can wager on whether the total number of goals in the game will be higher or lower than a specified number. This market can also be applied to other stats like cards and corners.
- Handicap – Bookmakers will offer handicaps on fixtures that involve an overwhelming favourite. If high-flying Leicester were playing relegation-threatened Rotherham, for example, a handicap of Leicester to win by two or more goals might be in play. This means that any wager on Leicester to win would only payout if they won by two or more goals.
- Bet Builder – Through bet builders, Championship bettors can customise their own bet slips, rolling a number of different selections into the same bet. Selections can cover a number of different markets and fixtures, often up to a total of eight legs.
