After five matches, Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay side find themselves second in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying table. After a slow start with a defeat to Ecuador and a stalemate with Colombia, La Celeste have pulled off two remarkable results with a win over Brazil in the Uruguayan capital, before a trip over to Buenos Aires where they managed a historic 2-0 win over World Champions Argentina.
Bolivia were beaten in all four of their first World Cup 2026 qualifiers, but lifted themselves off the bottom of the table by earning a 2-0 win over rivals Peru in La Paz last Thursday. La Verde have reached the finals of a World Cup three times in their history, with the most recent of those being at USA 1994 when they exited at the Group Stage.
Uruguay vs Bolivia Tips
I’m backing Uruguay -2 on the match handicap for my main play on Tuesday, meaning this bet will cash should the home side win the game by three or more goals.
This may not appear the most glamorous of prices at even money, however the contrast between Bolivia’s home and away performances needs to be factored in here.
Bolivia play their home matches in the highest capital city in the world and often benefit from being acclimatised to being 3600m above sea level. Teams who play here can often struggle, but away from home it's a different story.
In the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign, Bolivia lost all nine of their away matches and you have to go all the way back to 1993 for the last time that they collected three points in a World Cup qualifier outside their own country.
Uruguay on the other hand are riding a wave after their first away win against Argentina since 1987 last week. That result came off the back of a victory over Brazil and with Bolivia having conceded at least three goals in four of their last five qualifiers away from home, I’m taking the -2 handicap at 1/1.
One player who has been pivotal in Uruguay’s wins over Brazil and Argentina is Darwin Nunez. At 9/2 I like the look of him to score two or more goals in the game, which is available in the boosted prices section of the match page on Sky Bet.
Nunez has scored 10 goals for club and country across all competitions since the start of the 2023/24 season. The Liverpool front-man has also now scored in his last three for his national side and a game against Bolivia provides him with the chance to become the outright top-scorer in as he is currently tied level on three with Lionel Messi.
