The Open 2023 Each-Way Tips: Four big priced picks for the Claret Jug

The Open Golf Championship takes place this week at the Royal Liverpool Golf. Find below four players who we think are worth consideration at each-way prices.

Royal Liverpool

Situated on the scenic Wirral Peninsula, this historic venue boasts a legacy that stretches back to the game's early days, making it an iconic destination for golfers and spectators alike.

With its rich heritage going all the way back to 1869, Royal Liverpool has played an integral role in shaping the sport of golf as we know it today. Countless legendary players have graced these hallowed fairways, leaving behind a trail of heroic triumphs and unforgettable moments that have become a part of golfing folklore.

As players from every corner of the globe converge upon Hoylake, the picturesque seaside town that houses Royal Liverpool, they will be met with a challenging and strategic links course that has stood the test of time. The rolling sand dunes and the ever-present winds create an unpredictable and demanding test for even the most skilled golfers, ensuring that only the finest will rise to the top and contend for the coveted Claret Jug.

Throughout the years, Royal Liverpool has witnessed some of golf's most iconic victories and heart-wrenching defeats, forever etching its name in the annals of the sport's history. From the remarkable Bobby Jones completing his Grand Slam in 1930 to the awe-inspiring display of Tiger Woods' mastery in 2006, the memories of greatness linger in the air, inspiring the next generation of golfing champions to leave their mark on this revered course.

As the world watches in anticipation, the 2023 Open Golf Championship at Royal Liverpool promises to be a spectacle of unyielding passion and unrivalled competition. The best and brightest in the world of golf will converge here, their sights set on etching their names in the pantheon of golfing immortality.

Rickie Fowler - 25/1 (7 Places - Unibet)

After being priced as big as 66/1 earlier in the year, Rickie Fowler is now currently at a best price of 25/1 with Unibet to lift the Claret Jug at Hoylake. A large reason for this big swing in the odds is due to Fowler’s form this year. Since returning to work with Butch Harman, Fowler has played some of his best golf, finishing in the top-5 at the US Open, where he equalled the lowest round in Majors history with a first round 62.

Just two weeks ago Rickie Fowler was a winner of the Rocket Mortgage Classic, ending a run of four years without being in the winners circle.

This is a venue where Fowler finished T2 back in 2014 when Rory McIlroy was victorious and he looks to be showing some of his quality from that year when he finished in the top-five of all four majors.

Golf Odds

Justin Rose - 60/1 (7 places - Unibet)

Justin Rose will play his first two rounds at Hoylake alongside Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy.

Similar to Fowler, he rediscovered the sensation of triumph as he secured a victory at the picturesque Pebble Beach earlier this year. In recent months, his form has been strong, achieving a fourth-place finish in the British Masters at the Belfry, an impressive eighth-place in the Canadian Open, and a solid ninth-place in the US PGA Championship.

When playing The Open at this venue in 2014, Rose finished 23rd and I wouldn’t be put off by him now being 42. I’m a big fan of experience when it comes to this major. In the last 12 renewals we have had winners such Henrik Stenson, Zach Johnson, Phil Mickleson, Ernie Els, Darren Clarke and I fancy Rosey to go well here this week.

Adam Scott - 90/1 (7 Places Unibet)

Cast your minds back to 2012 at Muirfield and Adam Scott looked like he was about to become Open Champion, only to finish his final round with four consecutive bogeys to lose by one shot to Ernie Els. The Aussie then finished third in 2013, before managing a fifth place at Hoylake in 2014.

This season, he showcased his talent with a commendable fifth-place finish in the Wells Fargo Championship, followed by a solid eighth-place performance in the Byron Nelson. The US PGA Championship saw him secure a respectable 29th position, while he continued to impress with a ninth-place standing in the Memorial event. Wrapping up his recent achievements, he secured a solid 19th-place finish in the competitive Travelers Championship. Scott fits a lot of trends and ticks a lot of boxes and looks a tasty price here at 90/1 each-way.

Keegan Bradley - 110/1 (8 places bet365)

The final player in this quartet I like at each-way prices is Keegan Bradley. Again he is a winner this season after claiming the Travelers Championship at the back end of June and again he is a player in the autumn of his career, who fits my profile of an Open winner.

Bradley also showed last year when narrowly missing out on the Wells Fargo Championship that he is someone who can handle heavy rain and really testing conditions. The 37-year-old was T19 at Hoylake in 2014 and at a three-figure price I think he’s worth a bit of loose change each-way.
