PGA Championship Tips
The top two in the market will receive plenty of attention this week, but there is a sense that defending champion Brooks Koepka may creep in under the radar.
Koepka is looking for his sixth major success and has already won this tournament three times, and he can make his presence felt on a course which should reward the ability to drive the ball long and straight.
He also heads into the competition in good form having finished ninth in LIV Adelaide and won the breakaway tour’s latest gathering in Singapore, so there is little doubt that the man who won at Oak Hill can make a bold defence of his title.
Max Homa is looking to make that next leap in his career after claiming six wins on the PGA Tour and there is a feeling that his first Major success may not be too far away.
The 33-year-old has perhaps been guilty of failing to shine in the biggest tournaments, but his third place in last month’s Masters suggests he may have turned the corner in that regard.
There was enough to like in his eighth place at Quail Hollow last week to be confident that he could go close again at Valhalla and make that crucial next big move in his career.
Tommy Fleetwood has yet to win on American soil but his Ryder Cup team-mate Matt Fitzpatrick claimed his first Stateside success when he won the 2022 US Open, so the Southport swinger could follow his lead.
This week’s long, difficult course should be to his liking and his confidence will have been lifted by the third spot he posted at the Masters with his 13th at last week’s gathering at Quail Hollow demonstrating that his game is in a decent place.
