The Masters has been staged at Augusta since 1934 and the famous Georgia course is known both for being beautifully manicured and for its treacherous holes including the infamous 11th to 13th stretch known as Amen Corner.
Top-class ball-striking tends to win out at T he Masters and most of the recent champions have been elite performers from tee to green including Jon Rahm, who claimed his first Green Jacket 12 months ago.
The Masters 2024 Tips
While the landscape of professional golf remains divided, there is little doubt that Scottie Scheffler is the best player in the world and the 2022 champion can demonstrate his superiority by winning a second Green Jacket.
Scheffler has become the most dependable ball-striker on the PGA Tour, and by some distance, outranking his rivals by almost a shot per round from tee to green, and the Texas-based star has a game which is made for Augusta.
The 27-year-old finished 19th and 18th in his first two Masters appearances before putting that experience to good use in 2022 when claiming his first Major title.
He returns two years later without the stresses that come with trying to defend The Masters and he's arguably in better form than ever, having won the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship in the build-up to Augusta.
A cold putter has generally stopped Scheffler from winning more often but he's gained strokes on the greens in three starts since changing equipment and that improvement makes him a fearsome prospect this week.
Scheffler's biggest rival for the Green Jacket could be Xander Schauffele, who has been in magnificent form all year and has done everything but win a title.
Schauffele has finished 10th, third, ninth, 54th, fourth, 25th, second and fifth in eight PGA Tour starts this term and every area of his game appears to be firing on all cylinders ahead of this crack at a Major breakthrough.
The Californian has always looked well suited to Augusta, where he finished runner-up in 2019 and third in 2021. He was 10th last season and he looks a solid proposition with bookmakers who are offering enhanced place terms.
For our final Augusta wager, take a chance on Cameron Young, who has shown an ability to contend for titles at the top level on a number of occasions.
Young is yet to win a PGA Tour event but he's developed a reputation as a man for the big occasion, finishing in the top eight in four Major championships over the last two years, including when seventh in the 2023 Masters.
The New York native finished runner-up behind Peter Malnati at the Valspar Championship last time out and Augusta is an even better fit for his power-packed style.
