After missing out on reaching the 2022 World Cup after a play-off penalty shoot-out defeat against Australia, Peru have had a woeful start to this latest campaign. Juan Reynoso’s side sit bottom of the CONMEBOL table having accrued just one point from a possible 15.
Venezuela on the other hand made an excellent start in their attempt to make it to the finals that will be played across North America in 2026. They remain the only one of the top-10 ranked nations on the continent never to make it to a World Cup, but with more points than Brazil at this early stage, they are giving themselves every chance this time round.
Peru vs Venezuela Tips
Not many pundits would have predicted that Venezuela would sit fourth in the World Cup qualification standings heading into their final international match of the 2023.
Fernando Batista’s men are looking to re-write the history books and give their patriotic fans something to shout about after what has been a difficult decade in their homeland due to anti democratic-governance, corruption and mismanagement of the economy.
Back to on the field matters and Venezuela’s only blemish on their record so far came on Matchday 1 when they were beaten by Colombia. Since then they have kept three clean sheets in four matches and achieved wins over Paraguay and Chile, along with taking a point from Brazil and Ecuador.
Peru on the other hand suffered their most worrying result of the campaign as they were beaten 2-0 in La Paz by Bolivia last week. The win for La Verde sent Peru to the bottom of the table and we are more than happy to back Venezuela in the double chance market, meaning we need the visitors to win or draw the game.
We’ll also be adding Under 3.5 goals to that selection, which takes us up to 8/11 with the BetMGM Bet Builder feature. Venezuela’s last 11 matches across all formats have featured under four goals, while all five of Peru’s qualifiers have also seen this bet click, with Reynoso’s side yet to score a goal!
At 3/1 with William Hill, we also like the look of Salomon Rondon to find the net anytime in the match. After his rather underwhelming stint at Everton, the former Newcastle and West Brom forward swapped Bootle for Buenos Aires when signing for River Plate at the end of January.
In this calendar year, Rondon has managed 12 goals for club and country including strikes against Paraguay and Chile in the last few months. The biggest attacking threat for the visitors, Rondon can be a handful to say the least and at 3/1 we make him slightly overpriced here to find the net against an out of sorts Peru outfit.
