After a 5-1 mauling from hosts Germany on Matchday One, the Tartan Army were unable to recover enough in order to progress.

A 1-1 draw with Switzerland on Matchday Two inspired hope, but a dramatic defeat to Hungary in Stuttgart secured the Tartan Army's exit on Matchday Three.

Scotland have a lot to thank head coach Steve Clarke for. The former West Brom and Reading man took over the national team job in 2019 and secured the country's first qualification to a major tournament in over 20 years when he led them to the Euro 2020 finals, where they were knocked out in the group stages after defeats to Czech Republic and Croatia on home turf.

World Cup qualification proved beyond Clarke's charges as they lost to Ukraine in the play-offs, but promotion from the Nations League B Group followed a terrific qualifying campaign which included victories over Spain and Norway to secure their spot in the Finals with two games to spare.

With form dipping since qualification was confirmed, some questions may have been asked of Clarke, but given the context of Scotland's struggles for the previous two decades, Clarke has done a magnificent job and will be looking to go one step further by progressing from the group this time around.
