Portugal odds to win Euro 2024: Selecao set for France clash

Heading into Euro 2024 Portugal were fancied by many to go deep into the tournament, and Roberto Martinez's side got off to a bright start with two wins from their first two, before stumbling against Georgia and requiring a penalty shoot-out in their Round of 16 win over Slovenia.

Their only previous success at the European Championships came eight years ago in France, and they will be hoping to emulate that feat in what will be their 10th appearance at the tournament this summer, in what could be Cristiano Ronaldo's last at the age of 39.

The betting to win EURO 2024 is extremely close with little separating the odds at the head of the market.

After securing their place in the last eight in less than impressive fashion against Slovenia, Portugal have drifted out to 15/2 to win the tournament and even as far as 8/1 with some firms.

Portugal captain Ronaldo is reaching the end of his career, and having not yet scored at Euro 2024 (as well as missing a penalty against Slovakia), he's now out as far as 40/1 with some bookmakers.

Bruno Fernandes, who has one goal to his name so far, can be backed at a similar price, with Bernardo Silva who is also on one goal out at 66/1.

Portugal have already won Group F following wins against the Czech Republic and Turkey.They did suffer a shock defeat to Georgia in their final group game which does cause some concern for the latter stages against a tougher opponent.

After topping Group F, Portugal beat Slovenia in the last-16 on penalties. They now face France in what could be a mouth-watering quarter-final tie. Spain or Germany then await in the semi-final if they can make it past les Bleus.

Martinez has been in charge of Portugal since January 2023, replacing Euro 2016 winner Fernando Santos after the disappointing 2022 World Cup campaign.

The 50-year-old Martinez led his side to 10 wins in qualifying, but they will need to step up another level to go all the way this summer.

The former Wigan Athletic coach previously coached the Belgian national team between 2018 and 2022, but could only lead them to a third-place finish at the 2018 World Cup before they exited the tournament in the group stages four years later.

Martinez's Belgium team were knocked out in the quarter-finals at Euro 2020 by Italy, and he will hope to improve on that experience as he looks to guide Portugal to glory this time around.
