World Wide Technology Championship Tips: Four each-way selections in Mexico

The PGA Tour moves to Mexico this week and our man Jamie Broadhurst returns with four each-way selections.
World Wide Technology Championship
First founded in 2007, the World Wide Technology Championship was the first PGA Tour event to visit the country of Mexico, and has since been held at the El Camaleon Golf Course, located in the Riviera Maya region. This year the event moves away from its usual venue due to the LIV Golf Tour obtaining El Camaleon in its own Tour schedule and moves to the Tiger Woods designed El Cardonal Golf Course, located in the Diamante Cabo San Lucas Resort. This will be the first professional event to be held at a Tiger Woods designed golf course.
El Cardonal at Diamante
- Par 72
- 7363 yards
- Tiger Woods Design – opened 2014
- 4 x Par 3s
- 10 x Par 4s
- 4 x Par 5s
- Paspalum fairways, greens
- Coastal/Resort track
Quite the unknown this week as this course apart from being played on by members of the public is left to guess work from a punting perspective and conclusions can only be drawn by us based on quotes from players and pictures of the course.
At first glance, the fairways are wide but lined with exotic palm trees/bushes to provide errant tee shots with danger. The fairways are littered with deprivations and small mounds to give the players a real headache when positioning their ball in the fairways this week. Also positioned in the fairways are large desert areas containing natural bushes/pines that can be penal if found. Arroyos are also found throughout the course, these are natural gullies that have been carved out by rain water, they now provide channels that can fill up and could cause flash flooding to the course.
The greens that the players will play into this week, to say they are large is an understatement. On the official PGA Tour website, it states that the greens here collectively average around 8,300 square feet, this means this is around 23% larger than the greens at Marco Simone Golf Club, holder of this year’s Ryder Cup.
The greens are laid with Paspalum type grass, which is becoming more and more notorious at tracks close to the coast as it is less affected by the sand coming off the beaches. Paspalum grass holds a very tough grain of grass than can prove and has proven very tough to putt on and read for the players.
A good experience on them is a very good pointer for sure. A quick look at putting stats for previous WWT Championships at El Camaleon Golf Course will not go amiss as this grain of grass runs throughout that course too.
One final note on the course, the wind could play a major factor this week, the course as we have noted is close to the coast line but is very wide open to the elements, and from previous versions of the WWT Championships in Mexico we know the wind can blow hard here and can be relentless. A specific golfer is needed this week with class iron play to pierce the strong winds.
Previous World Wide Technology Championship winners
- 2022 – Russell Henley -23
- 2021 - Viktor Hovland -23
- 2020 – Viktor Hovland -20
- 2019 – Brendan Todd -20
- 2018 – Matt Kuchar -22
As previously stated, these previous results above were at El Camaleon Golf club. The El Camaleon track however is a brute of a golf course length wise, does play every year in the gusting winds and is played on Paspalum type grass.
Strokes Gained Off the Tee -
With wide open fairways this week, driving shouldn’t be an issue for any of the professionals, but I still want someone who will consistently drive it powerfully and put it in the right places on these fairways to give them the best chance of hitting these large greens in the right areas.
Strokes Gained Approach/Greens in Regulation -
Massive greens are the theme of this week, therefore we need consistent and solid ball strikers that turn up week in week out on the Tour to make sure they are found in regulation regularly and in a good proximity to the hole.

Keeping it at four picks for you all this week again! All 1.25pts each way in the 8 places market on bet365, good luck all! Let’s keep the profit rolling.
Luke List 35/1
Current Form – 18-1-25-35-33
Tournament Form – MC-7
A winner already this season on Tour two starts ago at the Sanderson Farms Championship with a low score of -18. With this being a potential birdie-fest this week, this fills me with confidence for Luke this week. 8th for Strokes Gained: Off the Tee this season so far with 15th for Driving Distance on Tour also. Luke’s classic looking golf swing gives the ball an absolute smash and I really think that’ll give him the advantage this week.
Keith Mitchell 35/1
Current Form – 21-MC-43-5
Tournament Form – MC-56-70-MC-65-68
A very similar pick to Luke List here in Keith Mitchell, 7th for Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and 11th for Driving Distance on Tour this season. All the guys I am chancing this week are very streaky when it comes to putting, but when they catch hot they go on a real birdie hot streak. With the yardages of the holes this week, especially the Par 4s, a lot of approaches will come from between 100-150 yards and this is where Keith excels the most each year.
Lucas Herbert 45/1
Current Form – MC-28-30-MC-60
Tournament Form – MC
Another streaky player on Tour, but when he gets in the mood, there isn’t much stopping the Australian. A winner last season at the Bermuda Championship on a long, wide open track, in horrifically strong wind, puts him in great stead for this week’s test at El Cardonal. He did miss the cut at his last start at the Shriners on a more intricate track but was 28th at his first start of the PGA Tour season at an easier Sanderson Farms Championship – I have no issue with his form coming here however.
Sam Ryder 66/1
Current Form – 64-28-51-14
Tournament Form – 8-MC-66-54-MC
Three starts the season on Tour and three cuts made by Sam Ryder, with some decent enough performances in them to encourage me to chance the American this week at 66/1 and an 8th last year in Mexico makes it an even better bet at this price, as many of the top guys in the market have sketchy form in this side of the world. Unlike the three selections above, Ryder's game is on the Approach and on the greens. 26th for Strokes Gained: Approach and 12th for Putting this season makes great reading, poor driving stats but on these wide fairways, I am not worried in the slightest and Ryder has tendencies to pop up out of the blue at these low scoring affairs.
