Will It Snow On Christmas Day 2022 Odds: Assessing the chances of a White Christmas in the UK and Ireland

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go...
For some those idyllic, or in other cases nightmarish, scenes of blanket white snow entrenching land as far as the eye can see have already materialised.
Parts of the UK have witnessed varying degrees of snow showers during the two-week countdown to the 25th December 2022. But the question on the nation's lips remains the same: will we get a white Christmas this year?
Here are the chances that BoyleSports and William Hill - the two bookmakers offering odds on whether it will snow on Christmas Day - make for some of the UK and Ireland's major cities to experience a real life winter wonderland...
Each selection is measured by whether snow falls at that city's designated airport; or any of its airports in the cases of those more prominent.
Aberdeen
Touted as the most likely location in the UK to enjoy a white Christmas is Aberdeen. The country's third-most populous city is located in North East Scotland and is currently encountering temperatures within the range of 2°C - -3°C.
As we know snow forms when the atmospheric temperature is at or below freezing - the equal of 32°F or 0°C. Furthermore, if the ground temperature is at or below this mark, that snow will reach the ground.
BoyleSports gives the city an equal chance of experiencing snow on December 25th as it does of seeing none at all that day at odds of 1/1.
Dublin
Ireland's capital and largest city closely follows. Again, BoyleSports are the only firm offering odds for these two locations and go 5/4 for the iconic destination to experience snow on Christmas.
Dublin has had snow and ice a couple of weeks before Christmas, and is forecast several days of minus temperatures in the lead up to the big one.
At the end of November the city was priced up at 5/1 for a white Christmas; this price slash clearly indicating that they think there's a high chance of kids waking up to those scenes on Christmas morning.
Newcastle
Over in England, Newcastle is believed to be the most plausible city to receive snow on Xmas.
2010's White Christmas was the last time it snowed on this day; with the occurrence reported as extremely unusual in a record "coldest Christmas ever".
The Northeastern university city located on the River Tyne is known for its harsh weather and is appropriately priced at 5/2 in this market.
Belfast
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland's capital provides quite the price disparity. BoyleSports go 9/4 for a white Christmas in Belfast compared to an 11/2 shot with William Hill.
The major city has been experiencing predicted snow risks between 50% and 75% as the day edges closer, with the weather phenomena already causing chaos there.
Elsewhere...
You can get odds of 7/2 with BoyleSports or 9/2 with William Hill for Edinburgh to be successful.
The bookmakers go 4/1 and 6/1 respectively for England's capital city London. Cardiff is available at 5/1 or 11/2, Birmingham is also 11/2, while Manchester and Leeds/Bradford round out the UK cities, both at 6/1.
