US Open Day 3 Tips
The first match we'll look into is Casper Ruud taking on Zhizhen Zhang. This is Zhizhen Zhang's second US Open appearance, and this time he successfully got through the opening round unlike last year. Zhang had to beat John Jeffrey Wolf in a thrilling five set battle, winning 7-5 7-5 6-7 4-6 6-3, which was the fourth 5-set battle of the day.
Casper Ruud had to take on the American Emilio Nava, where he disappointedly dropped one set but managed to secure the win winning three sets to one. However, it wasn't an easy match, with the Norwegian needing two tie breaks to secure the opening round win. Zhizhen Zhang is more than capable of troubling Casper Ruud, and the over games looks like a nice spot.
Let's look at Jennifer Brady, as she makes her comeback to the US Open after being out injured for two years. She got injured just before the US Open 2021 at Cincinnati where she had a great year, reaching the final of the Australian Open losing out to Naomi Osaka.
The year before that, she challenged for the US Open title, reaching the semi finals and losing out to eventual champion Naomi Osaka yet again. Brady has come back and played eight matches so far, with a record of 4-4. She has beaten some good caliber of players, including Anhelina Kalinina and Jelena Ostapenko, and grabbed a set off Elena Rybakina.
Jennifer Brady started her US Open campaign with confidence, beating Kimberly Birrell in straight sets. Now she faces Magda Linette, who has had an odd season. She's been in poor form, but did make an amazing run at the start of the year at the Australian Open, where she reached the semi finals and lost out to the winner of the competition, Aryna Sabalenka. I’m siding with Brady here, and I do believe the American should get this done.
