Tiger Woods, the 15-time Major champion, is the host in California and he will be making his first official outing since the 2023 Masters at Augusta National back in April.
Of the limited 70-player field, world number one Scottie Scheffler is the 13/2 favourite to land the spoils, ahead of 9/1 Rory McIlroy, 14/1 Viktor Hovland and the American quintet of Collin Morikawa, Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Justin Thomas, who are all priced at 16/1.
Unlike the two previous Signature Events this season that had no cut, the Genesis Invitational will have a midway chop to the top 50 and ties plus any player within 10 shots of the lead.
Finau to go all the way in California
Given the incredible talent on show this week there can be arguments made for several players to come out on top, but the headline selection goes to Tony Finau.
The 34-year-old American is one of the best from tee-to-green and he ranks in the top 10 for strokes gained: tee-to-green and approach this season, while he is third in greens in regulation.
A cold putter is the only thing that has stopped Finau from adding a seventh PGA Tour victory to his CV, but an improvement could be seen with the flat stick as he returns to a course he has performed well at in recent years.
The world number 24 has two Genesis Invitational runner-up finishes to his name, having ended up two strokes behind Bubba Watson in 2018, before losing to Max Homa in a play-off in 2021.
His confidence on the greens here can help him lift the trophy for the first time.
Australian to end long trophy drought
Another player who enjoys competing at Riviera is Adam Scott, who remains one of the finest ball-strikers around and who has looked in great shape in the early stages of the PGA campaign.
The Australian has gone T7-T20-T8 in his three appearances on the US circuit this year and he should be feared heading into the Genesis Invitational, a tournament he won in both 2005 and 2020.
Everything could come together for the 43-year-old this week as he aims to claim his first PGA title since claiming the spoils here four years ago.
South Korean primed for Riviera challenge
The third and final selection comes in the shape of Si Woo Kim and, although his record around Riviera doesn't compare to that of Scott's, the South Korean came close to triumphing here when third in 2019.
Kim arrives in solid form after recording back-to-back top-15s at Pebble Beach and the WM Phoenix Open and the lure of another prestigious title on his CV will act as extra motivation.
The world number 46 landed the 2017 Players Championship - the unofficial fifth Major - and that is one of four PGA Tour successes, with his latest coming at the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii.
Boasting a strokes gained: tee-to-green ranking of 12th this season, Kim's long game should put him in contention to claim the spoils and could be worth backing at a big price.
