Mansfield suffered their first loss of the 2023/24 season as they were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Port Vale on Tuesday. The Stags had the chance to reach the last-eight of the competition for the first time in their history, however they must now focus their attention on a different trophy as they welcome Welsh opposition to Field Mill. Nigel Clough’s side can be backed at 6/5 to win the game inside 90 minutes with most betting sites.
Wrexham enjoyed some of the magic of the cup last season as they reached the fourth round despite being a non-league side at the time. Sheffield United required a replay to see off the Red Dragons in February, however Phil Parkinson’s side are not as fancied to win this one as some punters may think, with 21/10 available for the win on Saturday.
Mansfield vs Wrexham Tips
At first glance you may wonder why we are opposing a Mansfield side that only suffered their first defeat in all competitions on Tuesday. Just one point separates Mansfield and Wrexham in the League Two table, but after their acclimatisation period since their promotion to the football league, we really feel Wrexham are starting to roll as they look to carry on their Hollywood script.
This was most evident in their 2-0 away victory at Notts County last weekend, a side they have butted heads with numerous times over the last few years. Wrexham have now put together an eight game unbeaten run across all formats with five of their last six resulting in victory. Wrexham showed last season just how seriously they take this competition and we like the look of them in the Draw No Bet market at 13/10 meaning we’ll have our stake returned should the game end level after 90 minutes.
Paul Mullin played a massive role in Wrexham’s FA Cup journey in 2022/23. The striker scored in all five of their cup matches last term, bagging eight goals in total which included a goal against Coventry and in both matches against Sheffield United in the fourth round.
Mullin has scored in three of the nine league starts he has made for Wrexham this season, but notably he has also been carded in all three of those matches. A player who is not afraid of a bit of controversy and one who relishes the big occasion, we’ll be taking a bit of the 11/1 with bet365 for him to score and be carded against Mansfield.
