Crystal Palace vs Man City Preview
Mac City sit 4th in the Premier League table with 65 points, still firmly in the hunt for Champions League spots next season with two league games to go. However, despite a disappointing season by their high standards, they have a huge opportunity to win silverware this weekend against Crystal Palace.
Having beaten Nottingham Forest in the semi-final, Bournemouth in the quarter-final and Plymouth in the fifth round, Manchester City will be hoping to go all the way in what will be their third consecutive FA Cup final in three years.
A win here could see them lift their eighth FA Cup; level with Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham. They are on a brilliant run of form, going unbeaten in their last 10 games in all competitions, winning seven and drawing three of them. They boast a dominant record over Crystal Palace in this competition, winning their last three consecutive FA Cup meetings against them with an aggregate score of 18-4.
As for Crystal Palace, this will be the third FA Cup final in their history, having lost the last two against Manchester United back in 1990 and 2016.
Considering the Eagles have never lifted a major trophy, this is a massive occasion for the club and their supporters, and there will be huge motivation to cause an upset this weekend.
They come into this game full of confidence on the back of losing just twice in their last 15 games in all competitions, winning on nine occasions. In the semi-finals and quarter-finals of this competition, they managed to brush aside Premier League sides Aston Villa and Fulham 3-0, so the morale in the camp is sky high.
Star man Eze is also in supreme goalscoring form, having scored five goals in his last four appearances, and netting a goal against Manchester City at the Etihad earlier this season.
These two sides have been involved in entertaining goal fests in recent seasons, with both teams scoring at least twice in five of their last six head-to-head meetings, so we could be in for another mouth-watering encounter.
Crystal Palace vs Man City FA Cup Final Tips
Manchester City have won the shot count in all five of their FA Cup fixtures this season, with shot counts as follows: 14-8 vs Forest, 17-5 vs Bournemouth, 29-1 vs Plymouth, 24-13 vs Leyton Orient & 20-10 vs Salford City.
I expect them to dominate possession and create a lot of chances which should lead to them winning the shot count again against a Palace side that will look to hit them on the counter attack.
Kevin De Bruyne has attempted at least one shot in all 18 of his Premier League starts this season. Having announced his departure from the club at the end of the season, he will be motivated to get a goal and win the FA Cup for his side, so he will not be afraid of taking shots from range. He also takes free kicks for Manchester City, which is a boost for this selection. The last time he played Crystal Palace, he attempted six shots.
Ismaila Sarr has been in fine goalscoring form for Palace in the FA Cup, scoring a brace in the semi-final against Aston Villa and also scoring against Fulham in the quarter-final. He has attempted a shot in both his meetings against Manchester City this season, and he will be a major threat on the counter-attack for Palace in this game.
The FA Cup final has been a low scoring fixture historically, with a single team scoring four goals just once in the last nine years. Manchester City themselves have only scored four goals once in their last 15 games in all competitions and Crystal Palace have been solid defensively, conceding four goals just twice in their last 24 games in all competitions.
Eberechi Eze has been the biggest attacking threat for Crystal Palace in recent weeks, scoring five goals in his last five games in all competitions.
His last seven shots on target have all been goals and he also scored in the 5-2 loss against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium a few weeks ago.
He is also Palace’s designated free kick taker and takes penalties in Mateta’s absence which makes the 4/1 price on this selection stand out so we will take it with a small 0.25pt stake as our second bet for this massive FA Cup final.
