Denmark vs. France Betting Tips: Olivier Giroud to continue fine form
There are 10 more Nations League matches on display on Sunday, including the intriguing Group A1 encounter between Denmark and France. Here at BettingOdds.com, we’ve previewed the match and offered two tips below…
Denmark vs France Tips
There’s all to play for in Group A1 as the four teams prepare for the final gameweek. Surprisingly, reigning Nations League and World Champs France aren’t in the mix to progress into the Finals, instead Les Bleus are fighting it out with Austria to avoid a shock relegation. Meanwhile, it's Croatia and Denmark who duel for top spot.
Heading into Sunday’s remaining two matches, it’s Croatia who lead the way on 10 points, swiftly followed by Denmark (9), then there’s France (5) and finally Austria (4). France were actually bottom of the group before a crucial 2-0 win over Austria last week - their first win in the group - while Croatia overcame Denmark, meaning the duo traded places in the table.
Simply put, in order to book their place in the finals tournament, Denmark have to win at home to France and hope that Croatia fail to win away to Austria. A win for France will swat away relegation, although if they draw then they’ll need to hope Austria have failed to beat Croatia.
France are the 23/20 favourites to grab that win, Denmark are 14/5 for all the spoils, whereas a draw can be found at 13/5.
It seems a silly thing to say but Olivier Giroud remains criminally underrated. At 35, he may be edging towards the end of his career, but his form has been superb of late.
The World Cup winner, who scored 11 goals en route to winning Serie A last season, has six goals in 10 games for club and country so far this term, netting in each of his last four games covering three different competitions.
Giroud’s goal last week against Austria saw him become the oldest scorer in France's history and in the process drew him to within two goals of the country’s record-goalscorer Thierry Henry (51). The AC Milan striker has now scored in each of his last three games for France and has five in his last six. With the goal record now within his grasp, he looks decent value at 15/8 to find the back of the net for the fifth successive game.
Via Betfair’s BetBuilder tool, we’ve put together a 4/1 double which requires Olivier Giroud to score and over 2.5 goals.
Giroud’s recent form has been electric and if you’ve read the section above you won’t need reminding of his statistics this season.
We fancy goals in this one given that Denmark have to win to have any chance of topping the group, while France need to win to be absolutely certain of avoiding the drop down to the second-tier.
BTTS has landed in eight of Les Bleus’ last nine games outside of France, and in three of Denmark’s last five fixtures including Thursday’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia. Denmark won 2-1 in June’s meeting and we fancy the return duel to go over 2.5 goals once again, which brings the Bet Builder to 4/1 with Betfair.
