Both of these sides have already qualified for the latter stages of the Europa League, however there is still plenty to play for with a victory for either side guaranteeing top spot, which would consign the other to the Europa League playoff round.
Marseille currently lead the group on 11 points, while Brighton's 10 points places them second. Taking a look at the match result odds for this clash and the home side are the odds-on favourites to get the win priced at 8/13 with most firms. The draw is available at 10/3, while a win for Marseille, which would be their first in England since beating Liverpool in 2007, can be backed at 4/1.
Brighton vs Marseille Tips
It’s no secret just how goal-laden Brighton’s games have been since Robert De Zerbi’s arrival at the club, with the Seagulls often featuring in high-scoring contests in both the Premier League and Europa League this season.
We are now 16 matches into the 2023/24 Premier League campaign and both teams to score has landed in every one of Brighton’s matches - a statistic which does not apply to any other team in Europe’s top-five leagues.
I see no reason to back against the chaos not continuing at the Amex on Thursday and I’ve decided to get behind the 13/10 that is on offer for Over 3.5 goals to be scored in the match.
When the pair met in France on Matchday 1 the game ended in a 2-2 draw and I fully expect there to be plenty of goals once again in this one. Four of Marseille’s five Europa League group games have featured Over 3.5 goals this season, with the only exception in that sample being the 2-0 away win at AEK Athens.
I’ve also had a little bit of loose change on a longshot which consists of Marseille winning the game, Pierre-Emerick Abuameyang scoring and Renan Lodi being carded at 28/1 with bet365.
Marseille are unbeaten in this Europa League group phase (W3 D2), and I think Brighton look incredibly short in the 1X2 market at just 8/13 to get the win here. The French side have won four games on the bounce across all formats and have just lost one of their last eight. Marseille were unlucky not to get the win in the reverse fixture with a 89th minute penalty from Joao Pedro securing Brighton a point after they had been 2-0 down.
Former Arsenal forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been enjoying a purple match for Marseille and scored a hat-trick on his last Europa League appearance in the 4-3 win over Ajax.
Auba has now scored in each of his last four matches, netting an impressive seven goals in that period and he looks overpriced north of 2/1 to find the net against a Brighton side who ship goals for fun.
Rounding off this three-pronged-punt is Renan Lodi to be carded. The left-back, who was shown seven yellows for Nottingham Forest last season is the most booked player for Gennaro Gattuso’s side this season having collected six yellows in just 13 league appearances. Lodi should be up against the pacey Simon Adingra in this clash and I like the look of him to pick up his second yellow in this competition this term to hopefully bring home this 28/1 poke.
