The 2020 US election is finally over after what has felt like an eternity, with Joe Biden being voted into office for the next four years by the American public.
Despite the polls closing on Tuesday evening, the delayed results due to the amount of postal votes received meant that we had to wait until this afternoon to find out whether or not Donald Trump would secure another term in the White House.
The odds continually fluctuated as votes were counted from different states from across the pond, but we now have a winner and thankfully it is the outcome that most of us were hoping for, as Donald and his fellow Republicans were Trumped by Biden and the Democrats.
I say ‘most of us’ as there were obviously millions of American citizens in favour of Trump remaining President of their beloved country, but they’ll get over it, in time. A lot quicker than one British-based punter will anyway, that’s for sure.
The staggering $5million wager - believed to be the largest on a political candidate in history - was made by a former banker through private bookmakers registered on the Caribbean island of Curacao, and would have pocketed the mystery Brit $15million profit had the 74-year-old been voted in for a second term.
On Wednesday morning it was reported that Trump was leading the way in the polls and on course to win the election, however as more votes were counted from key Democtatic states, that quickly changed and Biden’s odds started to shorten significantly.
By Thursday afternoon, Biden had shortened to 1/9 while Trump’s odds had drifted right out to 6/1, and by Saturday afternoon the election was finally decided for good, leaving this particular punter with a giant $5million-shaped hole in his pocket...
