Who are the Favourites?

Best Film

Black comedist Martin McDonagh’s latest foray into the absurd with The Banshees of Inisherin is the odds-on favourite for the top gong. It received one more BAFTA nod than it did with the Oscars (9) second to only All Quiet On the Western Front and tied with Everything Everywhere All At Once.

Kwan and Scheinert’s Michelle Yeoh-led sci-fi romp represents competition at 9/4, but home advantage and a win for his last outing Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, means you’d have to be brave to bet against the favourite.

Despite topping the charts with a whopping 14 nominations, Germany’s official submission AQOWF, isn’t given much hope of being crowned Best Film at 10/1.

Best Director

When it comes to Best Director, the two Daniels are favoured over McDonagh for their work on Everything Everywhere All At Once at around the EVS mark. There isn’t an awful lot in it post-nominations though, with the British-Irish writer/director valued at 5/4.

Any names outside of this top two are considered massive long shots, ranging from Todd Field and Edward Berger at 9s to Park Chan-wook all the way out at 28/1.

Leading Actor

Like Best Film, favour seems to be swaying towards The Banshees of Inisherin for Leading Actor. Irishman Colin Farrell sits comfortably above the five other entrants in the betting at 1/3, with Austin Butler’s portrayal of Elvis Prestley the next closest at around 4/1.

The short priced favourite for this year’s Best Actor at the Oscars, Brendan Fraser, finds himself all the way down at 11/2 with Bet365.

Leading Actress

Similarly to the picture at this year's Oscars, Cate Blanchett is seen as the woman to beat in the race for Leading Actress. She’s odds-on with both firms to receive the award, which as we know could be one of a few honours that would put her in good stead to pick up the Academy Award in March.

Michelle Yeoh is priced in the same area as she is for Best Actress at the Oscars. And the sizeable gap between these two and the rest of the field suggests that this one is indeed a two-horse race at best.
