The Six Nations is one of the most prestigious competitions in the world of rugby union, and this year’s edition of the showpiece tournament looks to be a belter. Read More
Previously known as the Home Nations Championship from 1893-1910, it is the oldest international tournament in World Rugby and with the addition of France in 1910 became the Five Nations Championship between 1910-1931 before reverting to the Home Nations Championship again between 1932 and 1939. After the war, in 1947 France were reintroduced and the competition reverted once more to the Five Nations.
Italy’s introduction in 2000 saw the now world renowned name of the Six Nations take over. Since 2000, neither the Italians or Scotland have won the title, The overall table encompassing all championships since 1893 sees England and Wales lead the way with 39 wins (29 outright for England and 28 for Wales) followed by France on 26 with 18 outright coming outright, including the 2022 Championship.

Who is the favourite to win the 2023 Six Nations?
It is almost always a tight betting affair when it comes to the top of the market in the Six Nations, and the 2023 Championship has proved no exception. Ireland have been in phenomenal form of late, with the appointment of rugby league legend Andrew Farrell as head coach looking an inspired move. With most firms they are shading the betting at approximately 6/4 from reigning champions France.
The Irish stunned the rugby world with a famous series win in New Zealand against the iconic All Blacks in July of 2022 and that win has marked them out as the best team on planet earth. They were heavily beaten in the first test but bounced back to win two classic encounters and take the series, their first ever series victory on New Zealand soil. Since that win they have played three games against Southern Hemisphere juggernauts in Australia, South Africa and Fiji and have won all three. They are worthy favourites to take out the Six Nations, but expect both France and England to put up an enormous fight.
Six Nations Match Odds
Betting on the 2023 Six Nations
Rugby fans with an eye for betting will have been keeping an eye on the outright markets for this year's tournament for months now, but the game-specific markets and special markets (Grand Slam winner and Triple Crown winner) have only recently appeared with most firms.
Of course, the odds for the tournament outright and indeed the specials will massively shift as the games kick off and teams show their potential (or lack of it!) Expect England's odds in particular to change markedly after the first game due to the presence of their new coaching team headed by Steve Borthwick having their first opportunity to impress Red Rose fans.
There are a few things to consider when placing a bet on The Six Nations:
-
Familiarise yourself with the teams, coaches and players taking part. It is crucial to be clued up before every bet you place, so learning about the potential winners before betting is always the best advice.
-
Check out our previews. Before the tournament kicks off we will have an outright preview of the championship on-site. We will also have game previews available closer to kick-off.
-
Consider the odds being offered by different bookies. You may be able to find better odds on certain teams at one compared to another.
-
Don't forget to consider the risks involved in betting. It's always possible that your chosen team may not perform as well as you had hoped, so be sure to only bet an amount that you are comfortable losing.
It's important to note that betting on The Six Nations, or any other form of gambling, carries inherent risks and should be approached with caution. Be sure to gamble responsibly and only bet what you can afford to lose.
