With two games left till the end of the season, Tottenham sit fifth in the league table with 63 points, four points behind Aston Ville who occupy the final Champions League spot.
After a horror run of four losses in a row, Spurs finally broke their losing streak as they came back from 1-0 down against Burnley to win 2-1 and keep their hopes for Champions League qualification alive.
However, if Aston Villa can beat Liverpool on Monday night, Tottenham will be officially out of the top-four race so their motivation for this game depends significantly on that result.
As for defending Champions Manchester City, they sit second in the league table with 85 points, one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand.
Considering they have a lower goal difference than Arsenal, this is an absolute must win for Guardiola’s men if they want to win the league for the fourth successive season, a feat no team has achieved in the history of English football since the inaugural season back in 1888.
They are unbeaten in their last 21 league games, winning their last seven in a row and they are scoring goals for fun at the moment.
Guardiola’s teams are known for their end-of-season surge and they will be confident of easing past Tottenham despite only prevailing once in their last five league meetings.
There will be a section of Spurs supporters who would happily take a defeat to dent Arsenal’s title charge but their coach Ange Postecoglu has made it clear there will be no complacency.
Tottenham vs Man City Tips
Bet Builder
- Match result will be Man City
- Heung Min Son - Over 0.5 shots
- Over 0.5 Offsides for Man City
Manchester City are firing on all cylinders at the moment having gone unbeaten in their last 21 league games.
They’ve scored 4, 4, 5, 4, 2 , 5 and 4 goals in their last seven league games since the 0-0 draw against Arsenal and are showing no signs of stopping.
Considering the significance of the three points for Guardiola’s men, I expect them to continue their terrific run of form against a Tottenham side struggling for form, having lost four of their last five league games.
As for Son, he is averaging the most shots for Tottenham this season (2.4 per game) and has registered a shot in 13 of his 14 starts in home games. He is their top scorer with 17 goals and will be the biggest attacking threat for the visitors on the counter so adding him to have at least one attempt on goal makes sense.
Finally, Tottenham have been playing with a high defensive line all season and have caught their opposition offside at least once in every single game so far this season (36/36). They’ve had 10 offsides against them in just their last two league games. There were three City offsides the last time they played Tottenham at this venue earlier this season in the FA Cup and considering there is expected to be relentless attacking pressure from the visitors, this selection should sail in.
Josko Gvardiol has been in supreme goalscoring form for Manchester City in recent weeks from the left back position, scoring five goals in his last seven games in all competitions.
He is consistently making dangerous runs into the box and is also an aerial threat from set pieces with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden delivering excellent balls into the penalty area.
He scored a brace at the weekend against Fulham, and at 8/1 it is definitely worth a small bet so we’ll take it with a 0.25pt stake as our second bet for this massive fixture.
