Aston Villa currently occupy fourth in the Premier League table and are looking to confirm their spot in the Champions League for next season. Should Spurs see off Burnley on Saturday, the gap would be four points, with both sides having two games remaining prior to Villa’s meeting with Liverpool and Tottenham’s game with Man City on Tuesday.
A third place finish looks almost a certainty for Liverpool, with the only trophy of a potential quadruple a few months ago being the League Cup this season. The Reds have fared well in recent years against Aston Villa winning 10 of the last 12 top-flight meetings (W10 D1 L1). Their only defeat in that period came in the shock 7-2 loss at Villa Park back in 2020.
Aston Villa vs Liverpool Tips
Aston Villa were knocked out of the Europa Conference League on Thursday evening after losing 2-1 away at Olympiacos on what must have been a tiring trip for Unai Emery’s boys. Liverpool have had considerably longer to prepare for this clash and it would be no surprise to see a bit of fatigue creep in for the hosts here.
The Reds managed a 4-2 win over Spurs in their most recent outing and can follow up with another win here against a Villa side who are winless in four and have lost three on the trot across all formats.
Unusually for an Unai Emery side, Aston Villa have been shipping goals recently, failing to keep a clean sheet in nine of their last ten. Liverpool have also shown defensive frailties of late, failing to keep out their opponents in all of their last nine matches. All things considered, backing the visitors to win with both teams scoring looks the appropriate bet here.
At 14/1, we’ve also put together a Bet Builder consisting of Luis Diaz and Virgil van Dijk to record a shot on target, along with Douglas Luiz to be carded.
Luis Diaz has managed eight goals and five assists this season and when it comes to shots on target he’s recorded 31 in the Premier League. He’s cleared the Over 0.5 line in five of his last six outings and can do so once more in the Midlands.
Virgil van Dijk may seem a left field choice for the shots market but recently he’s been a consistent threat from set-pieces in the last month. Across his last six matches his shot totals read: 2,4,2,0,2,2,2. The Dutchman has scored in three different competitions for Liverpool this season and can help Jurgen Klopp’s side finish the season with a final away win.
The third leg of this Bet Builder is for Douglas Luiz to be carded. Booked in Greece on Thursday, the Brazilian has racked up a whopping 15 yellow cards across all competitions this season. Five of those cautions have arrived in his last eight and with tired legs he could well pick up another here.
