The SPOTY betting market did previously feature a cluster of Lionesses stars during their stunning run to the Women's World Cup final.
England's heroines eventually came unstuck against Spain, who edged a tight final 1-0, which has seen bookmakers cool off on many of the players.
Goalkeeper Mary Earps - who saved a penalty in the final - stood out in particular with the tournament's Golden Glove winner now the red-hot bookmakers' favourite to win SPOTY, with her odds as short as 1/10, in from 40/1 at the start of July.
Earps, whose England teammate Beth Mead won SPOTY last year, won the Women's Super League Golden Glove last season after she kept a record 14 clean sheets for Manchester United and recently made her 100th appearance for the club.
Other highlights this year include being voted the England Women's Player of the Year for 2022-2023, finishing fifth in the Ballon d'Or, and saving a penalty in the shoot-out of the inaugural Women's Finalissima final against Brazil.
Earps replaced Stuart Broad at the top of the Sports Personality of the Year betting, however, the now-retired cricketer can't be ruled out at a best priced 10/1 with Betfred given his popularity.
A 50/1 outsider in July, Broad's odds were slashed following his heroics in the Ashes when he helped seal a Series draw.
At the end of the third day of the fifth Test, Broad revealed that he would retire after the conclusion of the Series. The following day he was given a guard of honour by the Australians and proceeded to smack a six off his final ball, he then backed this up by taking the final two wickets to help England win the fifth Test to record a 2-2 Series draw.
The 37-year-old subsequently rocketed into contention to win SPOTY, an award that has previously been won by five cricket players, most recently Ben Stokes in 2019, however, the emergence of Earps as the frontrunner has since seem him drift in the betting.
Broad's pulsating passion, fierce competitive spirit, and duration at the summit of the sport would make him a deserved winner in many people's eyes.
Katarina Johnson-Thompson is also hovering around the 18/1 mark in the latest SPOTY odds.
Previously a distant 66/1, Johnson-Thompson emerged as a serious contender after she won a stunning gold at the World Athletics Championships.
The 30-year-old held her nerve in the final event, the 800m, to secure victory over Anna Hall by 20 minutes to take Britain's first gold of the Championships.
Frankie Dettori was previously a short price to win SPOTY, and while he's around the 16/1 mark with most bookmakers, Bet Victor have the jockey way out at 25/1.
Highlights 2023 include winning Royal Ascot's Gold Cup, the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, an Epsom Oaks triumph, and the Ebor Handicap.
Dettori, who appeared on the recent I'm A Celeb, has now bowed out of the UK racing scene to extend his career over in the US.
Wheelchair tennis sensation Alfie Hewett (33/1) has enjoyed a stellar year of success, which includes Australian and US Open triumphs in the singles and Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon in the doubles.
On top of that, Hewett was part of the Great Britain squad that won the World Team Cup.
Rory McIlroy ranges from 66/1 to 150/1 to win the award for the first time. The golfer has surprisingly never been victorious with his best finish 2nd behind Lews Hamilton in 2014.
While the Northern Irishman may have to wait to get his hands on the trophy, McIlroy can look back on a successful year during which he won the Ryder Cup, Race To Dubai, and The Scottish Open, while he finished in the top-7 in three of the four majors.
