Who is the favourite to win SPOTY 2023?
There have been a multitude of magnificent performances from sports stars who have captured the imagination in a whole host of different fields: from the Women's World Cup to the Ryder Cup, The Ashes to the Rugby World Cup, and the Champions League to the PDC World Darts Championship.
An expert independent panel decided on the shortlist of contenders for this year's prize, which was revealed on Tuesday 12th December:
Six Nominees
Mary Earps (Football)
Rory McIlroy (Golf)
Stuart Broad (Cricket)
Alfie Hewett (Wheelchair Tennis)
Frankie Dettori (Horse Racing)
Katarina Johnson-Thompson (Athletics)
At the time of writing, it's Mary Earps who is well fancied in the betting.
England's goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove at the World Cup and was recently named the BBC Women's Footballer of the Year, is odds-on across the board to follow in the footsteps of her Lionesses teammate Beth Mead and win the award.
The now-retired former England cricketer Stuart Broad is next in the running at 16/1 following his superb performances in rescuing a draw for England in The Ashes.
Heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson is a tad longer at 19/1 following her gold triumph at the World Championships, ahead of jockey Frankie Dettori, who is around the 33/1 mark.
Wheelchair tennis star Alfie Hewett and golf icon Rory McIlroy are both three-figure prices to cause an upset.
