Taking a look at the match result market and Scotland are the odds-on favourites to get the win, priced at 11/20 to do so. The draw can be sided with at 13/5, while a first win against Scotland for Northern Ireland in 50 years can be backed at 13/5 with most bookmakers.
Moving onto team news and Grant Hanley withdrew from the Scotland squad along with defender Scott McKenna. The visitors will be without the services of Jonny Evans, while Bailey Peacock-Farrell is expected to come into the starting XI.
Scotland vs Northern Ireland
Scotland may have qualified for the European Championships finals in Germany, but since then their form has taken a dip. Steve Clarke’s side are currently on a six-game winless streak and did not cover themselves in glory after a 4-0 defeat to the Netherlands on Friday evening in Amsterdam.
Northern Ireland on the other hand may not have qualified for the Euros, but since their fate was confirmed, they have picked up two positive results. Michael O’Neil’s men managed a fantastic 2-0 win over Denmark in their final Euro qualifier group game, before a 1-1 draw away in Romania on Friday evening in a match which saw Stevenage striker Jamie Reid score on his international debut after just seven matches.
The Scots have scored in 16 of their last 17 matches on home soil, however with their recent dip in form we think there is plenty of scope for the visitors to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday. Both teams to score is currently trading at 13/8 with several bookmakers, which looks a little too big in our eyes.
Scotland have shipped 18 goals across their last six matches, which is as many as they conceded in their previous 22! There is no denying their squad contains considerably more quality than Northern Ireland, but with some young promising players such as Connor Bradley starting to find their feet, the visitors can pick up a result here.
As with many international friendlies, we don’t see this being a high scoring contest, and taking a punt on the correct score finishing 1-1 at around the 13/2 reigon looks a solid proposition. Both team to score has landed in four of Scotland’s last six friendlies, with the only exceptions in that sample coming against Netherlands and Spain when Clarke’s side failed to get on the scoresheet.
