Chile started their campaign with a drab goalless draw against Peru, meaning La Roja have now won just three of their last 11 matches in all competitions.
Argentina, meanwhile, showed exactly why they are heavily favoured for success in the United States as they confidently dispatched Canada 2-0 in Atlanta, with Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez both getting on the scoresheet.
Chile vs Argentina Predictions
Argentina’s opening victory over Canada means that they are just one win away from reaching the knockout stages and they can claim that in style against a Chile side who have been lacklustre in recent times.
La Albiceleste have looked impressively strong since lifting the World Cup for a third time in 2022, winning 14 of their 15 games since - with the sole blemish on their almost perfect record being a 2-0 defeat to Uruguay - keeping 12 clean sheets along the way.
Chile, meanwhile, have failed to score in six of their last 11 fixtures, while their last win over Argentina in regular time came in a 1-0 victory in a World Cup qualifier back in 2008 - a run that stretches back 12 games.
With Argentina firing on all cylinders, it is difficult to look past the reigning champions for victory and, with just four goals conceded across their last 15, an accompanying clean sheet looks a strong bet at even money with bet365.
With Argentina expected to dominate proceedings in New Jersey, Chile may struggle for possession which means they may have to resort to the dark arts to disrupt the flow of the reigning champions.
La Roja have already fallen foul of the officials on more than one occasion in this tournament, with three Chileans seeing their names in the referees notebook against Peru.
One of these was holding midfielder Erick Pulgar and, with the talents of Alvarez and Lionel Messi to contend with, he could be a likely contender to feel the wrath of the officials once again and is 7/4 to be booked.
Argentina are blessed with an abundance of attacking talent to call upon for this tournament and two of their forwards have already found the back of the net in the form of Martinez and Alvarez.
The latter started the win over Canada and opened the scoring in the second half to grab his eighth goal for his country, with Martinez replacing him before finding the net himself.
The City striker will be expected to start ahead of Martinez once again in this clash and, should the service be of its usual quality, Alvarez might well be able to double his tournament tally at 15/8 in the anytime goalscorer market.
