Argentina began their defence of the Copa America with a 2-0 win over Canada, before beating Chile 1-0 in their second game.
Peru got off to a decent start with a 0-0 draw against Chile, but Miguel Araujo’s sending-off swung their second match in Canada’s favour and they were beaten 1-0.
Argentina vs Peru Predictions
Argentina are yet to concede at this tournament, with the Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez having kept two clean sheets.
With his side having already qualified for the last eight, head coach Lionel Scaloni looks set to take the opportunity to rest some players, with River Plate’s Franco Armani likely to start in goal.
Since winning the 2022 World Cup, the Argentines have only lost one of their 16 fixtures, winning the other 15.
In those 16 games La Albiceleste have kept 13 clean sheets, which includes five of their six World Cup qualifiers against their South American rivals.
One of those instances came in October of last year against Peru, when a Lionel Messi brace saw Argentina win 2-0 away from home.
Peru have failed to score at this tournament and have only scored once in the CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers, drawing a blank in five of their six games.
Even though Argentina will rotate, they should still have too much for Peru and can once again claim a win without conceding at 6/5 with BetMGM.
Lautaro Martinez is the joint top scorer at the 2024 Copa America with two goals, despite the fact that he has started on the bench for both of Argentina’s two games.
The Inter Milan striker replaced goalscorer Julian Alvarez in the opening game against Canada and found the net himself in the 88th minute.
Martinez was once more introduced as a replacement for the Manchester City forward in Argentina’s second game and again he scored in the 88th minute, to break the deadlock against Chile.
With Scaloni ready to rotate and Messi having picked up a muscle injury against the Chileans, it seems certain that the 26-year-old will get the chance to start this one.
Martinez lost his starting place for his country during the group stage of the 2022 World Cup and had to make do with a substitute appearance in the final.
With four goals in his last three appearances for Argentina, it will be hard for Scaloni to send him back to the bench should he add to his tally against Peru, adding to his motivation.
At 23/4 he looked a decent bet to open the scoring in this match.
In Argentina’s opening match against Canada they won seven corners and conceded four.
Then against Chile there were also 11 corners in the game, though this time it was La Albiceleste who recorded them all, with their opponents failing to get off the mark.
Though Argentina have broken the 9.5 corner mark in both of their games, Peru’s game against Canada only saw four and there were just three when they faced Chile.
That serves to make the odds fairly generous, when there is reason to think that there will be at least 10 corners.
Argentina will want to win this group and their fringe players will be eager to impress.
Meanwhile, Peru have to win this game and really have no choice but to be more adventurous, against opponents that will field a weakened team.
