Aintree Day 2 Tips
13:45 - Mildmay Novices’ Chase - Chianti Classico
The first race of the day is the Mildmay Chase and we are straight into the Grade 1 action. Chianti Classico was one of the few winners for me at The Cheltenham Festival and I am sticking with him as he bids for more success at Aintree. Trained by Kim Bailey and ridden by David Bass, he travelled well and bolted up in the Ultima on Tuesday at Cheltenham and I’m expecting another strong run here.
14:40 - William Hill Handicap Hurdle - Inthewaterside
Next up we have a handicap with a field of 20+ runners set to go to post. Inthewaterside arrives here in fine form after a good season which includes a win here at Aintree in October. The seven-year-old was second last time out when giving away 8lbs to a horse that went on to finish a strong second next time out. This is only his second handicap and I’ve a good feeling that he could outrun his weight.
14:55 - Top Novices’ Hurdle - Dysart Enos
Mystical Power may be the strong favourite for this race at around the 5/4 mark, but I’m siding with Fergal O’Brien’s Dysart Enos. She was unlucky to miss the Cheltenham Festival after reporting lame, but holds every chance here to scoop this big prize. A horse who is unbeaten under rules and will handle the ground. At the prices she looks a bet and is well worth her place in the race.
15:30 - Melling Chase - Pic D'Orhy
For my final pick on Friday, I’ve taken a lean towards Pic D’Orhy. Now a nine-year-old, he boasts a superb record having never finished outside of the top-2 going back to the start of last season. He was the winner of this race 12 months ago and looks to have targeted it once again. He arrives fresh and I think he can get the better of Jonbon and Protektorat.
