Match Stats
This will be the first meeting in international competition between Wales and Iran.
Wales had to qualify in the hardest possible route, finishing 2nd in Group E behind then best team in the world, Belgium. That gained them a playoff match against the team everyone wanted to see progress: Ukraine. A superbly hard fought 1-0 win over Ukraine ended 64 years of hurt and took them to their first World Cup Finals since 1958.
Iran have a good mixture of home-based and foreign players and will be used to playing in Qatar. Needless to say they are rank outsiders for the tournament and any points they can pick up in the group will be a bonus.
