Exeter City named Gary Caldwell as their new manager on 24 October 2022 after Matt Taylor left for Rotherham.
Exeter have played in the Football League for most of its history with the exception of a five-year period between 2003 and 2008 when they were in the Conference. Having returned to League Two, Exeter immediately gained another promotion to League One where they remained up until 2014 when they suffered relegation down to League Two.
The man who masterminded their move up the leagues is Paul Tisdale and he remains a popular figure with the fans in the southwest. Exeter is one of few clubs who are owned by their fans, the Exeter City Supporters Trust, who are at the helm and have been considered a success over the past few years.
Exeter were thrust into the media limelight back in 2002 when Michael Jackson was made an honorary director of the club. The famous pop star arrived at St James Park with Uri Gellar to the bewilderment of most onlookers, the King of Pop never returned to the South West but remained their most famous supporter until his death in 2009.
A single draw against Fleetwood Town in an otherwise black and white set of results has seen Exeter City struggle for consistent results. Wins against Accrington Stanley, Barnsley, Morecambe and defeats to Bolton Wanderers, Peterborough United, Plymouth Argyle, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town demonstate slightly erratic form.
