Wolves and Coventry will put their league ambitions aside on Saturday as they face off for a place in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley. Gary O’Neil’s men currently occupy ninth in the top-flight standings, while Mark Robins’ men are eighth in the Championship with hopes of securing a play-off spot.
The hosts are the odds-on favourites to win the match in 90 minutes, priced at 8/13 to do so. The draw can be backed at 3/1, while a win for The Sky Blues is chalked up at 17/4, In terms of the ‘to qualify’ market, Wolves are on show at 1/3 and Coventry at 9/4.
Wolves vs Coventry Tips
The first selection we are getting behind is from the player shots on target market, where we are backing Ellis Simms to have one or more in the match. Simms scored a first-half hat-trick in the fifth round of the competition against Maidstone and should be named in the starting lineup once again here.
When it comes to hitting the target, Simms has registered 11 attempts across his last seven appearances for Coventry, immediately giving appeal to the 10/11 that is on offer with bet365 for him to clear the Over 0.5 line. Other firms have this same selection priced at just 4/6, so we would recommend taking the considerably bigger odds with bet365.
For our longshot, we are going one step further and have backed Ellis Simms to score and Coventry to win the game at 10/1. In his last seven appearances for Coventry, Simms has found the net on eight occasions. That sample of goals includes hat-tricks against Maidstone and Rotherham and he has looked sharp after being in and out of the side in the few months prior.
We have reason to believe that Coventry can really be competitive here. Wolves have several injuries in their attacking department with Pedro Neto, Hwang Hee-Chan, Jeanricner Bellegrade all confirmed absentees, while Matheus Cunha may only be fit enough for a spot on the substitutes bench.
It’s been a rocky few weeks for Coventry with defeats to Preston and West Brom, but with a prospect of a FA Cup semi-final on the line against a heavily changed Wolves side, we think there is reason to believe they can outperform their odds and cause an upset.
