US Open Day 9 Betting Tips: Three bets for Tuesday

We're through to the quarter-finals of the US Open, and with that came a huge upset with number one and defending champion Iga Swiatek losing out to her kryptonite, Jelena Ostapenko.

Jelena Ostapenko's huge upset has turned the top half around.

Iga Swiatek was the huge favourite to reach the final and win, but now we're in a situation where there will be a guaranteed finalist that will compete for their first-ever US Open trophy.

Ostapenko, who is the only player with a Grand Slam to her name in the top half of the draw, faces the in-form Coco Gauff for a place in the semi finals.

The American is on a hot streak, going nine games unbeaten.

But Ostapenko poses a real threat to that record, and will be coming in full of confidence.

She beat Gauff earlier this year at the Australian Open in straight sets, and I think we should be seeing much closer odds.

There was another big upset as Ben Shelton beat Tommy Paul in the round of 16 to secure a quarter-final appearance.

It's been a weird year for the American, where he's really struggled on the tour.

He's only won back-to-back matches twice in 2023, and that was the Australian Open where he reached the quarter-finals, as well as this year's US Open. These big game moments have secured him a new career high of 27.

Now he faces another American, Frances Tiafoe, who has been in terrific form these past few days, dropping just the one set to Mannarino in the third round.

Tiafoe went deep in this competition last year, where he reached the semi-finals, and he's now just one win away from matching that.
