Premier League Darts 2022 Night 2 Odds: Expect fireworks on a cracking night
As the second week of the 2022 Premier League of Darts comes to Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena, @tomsportsjourno is on-hand to provide the lowdown ahead of the action, with his best bets on offer.
Premier League Night 2 Tips:
In a mouth-watering clash of epic proportions to kick off proceedings in Liverpool, ‘Snakebite’ and the ‘Green Machine’ go to battle in a best of 11 leg shootout. The new format brought in by the PDC worked excellently last week as Peter Wright won on week one, blowing away Jonny Clayton in a spectacular display from Wright, averaging in excess of 115 in a 6-1 rout of the Welshman.
As for Michael van Gerwen, the dutchman was defeated 6-4 by Gary Anderson in his opening match in Cardiff, despite averaging 96. The three-time world champion will be out to avenge last week’s defeat, but Peter Wright is a player bang-in-form, claiming his second world championship title, trousering £500,00 and on the cusp of jumping to no.1 in the world rankings.
Wright continued his winning form, picking up the weekend’s second Players Championship event in Barnsley, defeating Gerwyn Price in the final. For this one, I’m backing a Michael van Gerwen victory, priced at 5/4.
In the evening’s second tie, we have another fascinating encounter on-offer with Jonny Clayton taking on Michael Smith in a repeat of their emphatic world championship last-16 tie, which Smith edged out Clayton in a tie-break. The match was voted the ‘Match of the Tournament’ at the PDC awards, recently.
In terms of their performances last week in Cardiff, Clayton went on to reach the final, despite running into an inspired Peter Wright. As for Smith, the two-time world championship finalist lost out 6-3 to the eventual winner, Peter Wright. It was a below-par performance by Smith’s high standards, averaging just 88.
I’m expecting a hotly-contested tie and I wouldn’t be surprised if the contest goes the distance, just like their Ally Pally clash, just weeks ago. As the pair are so hard to separate in terms of who will progress to the last four on week two, I’m selecting the 180’s market, with Smith to produce the most maximums priced at evens.
Rounding off the opening phase in week two, Gerwyn Price looks to return to winning ways as he faces the former two-time world champion, Gary Anderson. Price was ousted by James Wade in his opener on home soil in Cardiff last week and the Welshman will be desperate to make amends as he takes on the Scot.
As for Anderson, he’ll be relatively pleased with his start to the Premier League. Defeating Michael van Gerwen before narrowly losing out in a last-leg thriller with eventual winner, Peter Wright.
For Price, we all know that he plays better when fired up and last week’s early exit will surely add fuel to the fire and after reaching a final over the weekend in Barnsley, I can’t see anything other than a Gerwyn Price win, here.
