Top Darts Events To Bet On
The darts has garnered a strong reputation for its raucous atmosphere and is an incredibly appealing and inclusive sport to the neutral. Each year there are five majors which the sport's best and brightest look to claim on the circuit.
Here are some of the most important tournaments for punters to bet on during the calendar:
Premier League Darts
The Premier League Darts, known as BetMGM Premier League Darts in 2024 for sponsorship purposes, is a weekly roadshow tournament founded in 2005 where eight of the sport's most elite battle it out for superiority across three months. The PDC's top four players are entered in order of merit and are joined by four wildcard selections which make up the eight-person field.
Phil Taylor is the competition's most successful entrant, dominating the event during his playing time, where he won six of the 13 tournaments he appeared in. There have been seven overall winners of the Premier League: Phil Taylor, James Wade, Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen, Raymond van Barneveld, Glen Durrant and Jonny Clayton.
The reigning champion is 2024 winner Luke Littler who defeated fellow Englishman Luke Humphries 11-7 at the O2 Arena in London.
World Matchplay Darts
The World Matchplay Darts runs for nine days each July, offering a prize fund of £200,000 to its eventual winner from a pot of £800,000 total.
The top 16 players on the PDC Order of Merit are seeded for the tournament, with a further top 16 of players on the ProTour Order of Merit qualified through an unseeded place. It's structured through 16 first round ties, with the winner from the best of 19 legs progressing, followed up by eight second round matchups won via the best of 21 legs. The quarter-finals are then contested over the best of 31 legs, before four players make it through to the semi-finals over 33 legs and a best of 35 final declares a winner one day later.
PDC World Darts Championship
With a £2.5 million jackpot on the line for its winner, the annual PDC World Darts Championship is the crème de la crème of events in the sport. The prestigious PDC Championship has been held at Alexandra Palace in London since 2008, beginning on 15th December and running right the way through to 3rd January, with appropriate breaks over the festive period.
Along with the Premier League Darts and PDC World Matchplay, this competition is considered part of the Triple Crown. There have been 12 different winners over the tournament's 30-year existence, with Phil Taylor dominating the competition boasting 14 wins from 25 appearances.
John Part, Adrian Lewis, Gary Anderson, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright are the other five names to have lifted the trophy more than once at 'Ally Pally'. Other victors include Dennis Priestley, Raymond van Barneveld, Rob Cross, Gerwyn Price, Michael Smith, Luke Humphries, and most recently Luke Littler in 2025.
