Next Lincoln Manager Odds as Michael Carrick and Mark Kennedy move into contention
Lincoln City remain on the hunt for a replacement for Michael Appleton who vacated his post at the end of the League One season.
So far we’ve seen a range of managers and coaches linked to the position, most recently Michael Carrick and Mark Kennedy.
Here’s all the latest in the next Lincoln manager odds market…(scroll down for full odds)
Michael Carrick linked
The major news on Tuesday saw the sudden emergence of Michael Carrick as a contender for the position at Sincil Bank.
Carrick’s odds were slashed from a 25/1 outsider to the betting frontrunner (evens, with BetVictor). The surprise move in the market certainly caught the attention of fans, however Carrick has since drifted a little to 4/1.
Carrick previously worked as a coach at Man Utd under Jose Mourinho, then was kept on the coaching staff following the appointment of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer through to the Norwegian’s departure last November.
Carrick then stepped up as caretaker manager for three games - beating Villarreal and Arsenal, and drawing with Chelsea - before opting to leave the club after Ralf Rangnick came in as interim manager.
We’ve since seen fellow Man Utd coach Kieran McKenna make the jump into management with League One Ipswich, with Carrick expected to make the plunge at some point in the near future.
The appointment of Carrick at Lincoln would undoubtedly create a buzz around the place. He's a high-profile name who has plenty of contacts in the game. Yet, we don't yet know for sure if the link has any substance to it.
Mark Kennedy hot favourite
At the time of writing, former Man City and Liverpool winger Mark Kennedy tops the betting at just 1/4 with BetVictor.
With Lee Bowyer’s future up in the air at Birmingham, his assistant Kennedy is being linked with a move to Lincoln which would be his first managerial role since a brief spell in charge of Macclesfield during the tumultuous COVID-affected second-half of the 2019/20 season, which ended in relegation down to the National League after the financially-crippled club was smacked with a points deduction.
The Irishman, 45, has extensive coaching experience on his CV which includes spells working in the academies at Man City and Ipswich, while he’s been working as Bowyer’s assistant at Birmingham since last summer.
While he's very short in the betting right now, this doesn't necessarily mean that the job is Kennedy's just yet, but he could well be in talks with the club over the position.
Stephen Bradley out of the running
We now know that former favourite Stephen Bradley won’t be getting the Lincoln job after he committed his future to current club Shamrock Rovers.
Bradley, who had emerged as Lincoln’s No.1 choice, released a statement over the weekend:
“I would like to thank Lincoln City for expressing an interest in speaking to me about their vacant managerial position.
“Like every manager and coach I one day have an ambition to test myself in different countries and at different levels of the game.
“But right now, I am very happy to stay and continue my work at Shamrock Rovers. I love this club and I feel that our work here is not yet complete.”
Meanwhile, England U19s Ian Foster - who has been linked since Appleton’s exit - is available at 10/1, while Notts County boss Ian Burchnall has drifted to 20/1. Full odds below.
