Former promotion-winning manager Neil Critchley returned to Blackpool for a second spell in late May 2023.
After just three months in charge Blackpool's head coach Mick McCarthy left the club via mutual consent on 8th April 2023, with Stephen Dobbie has overseeing the first team for the rest of the 2022/23 season which ended in relegation.
Blackpool won promotion to the Premier League in 2010 but despite a bright opening half of the season they were unable to hold onto their top flight status. The most famous moment in their history was of course the 1953 FA Cup Final aka the 'Matthews Final' when star player Stanley Matthews led his side to a 4-3 win against Bolton in one of the greatest Finals the competition has ever seen.
The Seasiders have been in freefall of late, suffering back-to-back relegations from the Championship down to League Two, a rotten slump which came to an end after Bowyer led the club back up to League One.
A losing record in a binary last 10 games has seen Blackpool endure a period of poorer form. Invaluable wins against Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic, Birmingham City, Norwich City has seen them keep their heads above water, but reversals against Coventry City, Preston North End, Cardiff City, Luton Town, West Bromwich Albion, Millwall has put them on the slide.
