Fresh take on the next Charlton manager odds: Featuring Matt Taylor, Mark Warburton and Lee Bowyer

It’s now been 10 days since Charlton parted ways with Johnnie Jackson after just five months in the permanent position.
We’ve already seen fellow League One clubs Fleetwood give Scott Brown his first route into management and Lincoln City opt for Irishman Mark Kennedy, but who is being linked with the Addicks post?
Below we have taken a fresh look at the next Charlton manager odds, which contains a new frontrunner…
Next Manager Markets
Matt Taylor new favourite
There hadn’t been a whole lot of movement in the market until Thursday when a report by the South London Press revealed that Matt Taylor was under consideration for the job at Charlton, a club he previously played for.
The 40-year-old is one of a cluster of talented young coaches working in the EFL, whose profile and reputation have risen somewhat after he led Exeter City to automatic promotion to League One.
Taylor was previously a 25/1 outsider to re-join the Addicks as manager, odds which have since been sliced to 12/1, and now 4/1 meaning he’s the favourite in the betting - he can still be backed at 9/2 with William Hill.
It goes without saying that Exeter will obviously want to do everything they can to keep Taylor at the club as they prepare for a first third-tier season since 2011/12, but will no doubt be wary of a recent trend of League Two promotion-winning managers being pinched by other clubs e.g. Derek Adams last summer and Rob Edwards this very week, while Joey Barton is now the surprise favourite for the Burnley job.
Mark Warburton’s next move
Mark Warburton will leave QPR this summer after three years in charge.
His name has been cemented near the top of the Charlton market ever since it was revealed that Jackson had left, with the 59-year-old currently priced at 5/1 with BetVictor, although as of yet there’s been nothing concrete.
Whether Warburton would step down a division remains to be seen. He’s previously tasted success in League One where he took Brentford to automatic promotion in his first season. He’s since been predominantly employed in the Championship with the Bees, Nottingham Forest, and QPR, while he led Rangers back up to the SPL.
Charlton aren’t the only club Warburton has been linked with. Given the uncertainty surrounding the future of Lee Bowyer - more on him in a moment - there have been reports that he could be set to take over at Birmingham this summer.
The man himself has remained tight-lipped on his next move, telling Sky Sports:
“It’s nice to be linked with jobs, but the fact is there are people in situ.
“I would never ever talk about that, far from it, it is paper speculation.
“All you can do is wait and see what happens in the coming weeks. I am very keen [to return to management].”
Could Lee Bowyer return?
Lee Bowyer (6/1) resigned from his post at Charlton in March 2021 after nearly three years in charge, during which he won promotion to the Championship followed by a relegation back down to League One.
"I hope the club can continue to grow,” he said at the time of his exit. “It will always hold a special place in my heart."
After leaving Charlton for former club Birmingham, Bowyer has experienced a testing time, finishing 18th and 20th. His assistant, Mark Kennedy, has just taken up the job at Lincoln while Bowyer’s own future has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks.
In a Birmingham club statement on Thursday revealing Kennedy's exit, there was a line that said: "The Club will now work with Lee Bowyer to fulfil the position of Assistant Head Coach in time for pre-season of the upcoming campaign" - suggesting he could be staying on.
In truth, a return to the Valley doesn’t seem likely. It’s difficult to see the club re-appointing him, while who is to say that Bowyer would even be interested if he did leave Birmingham. Fan reaction would be very mixed.
Who else has been linked?
Despite his position in the betting, ex-Charlton player Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is not believed to be in the running.
Neil Lennon is still surprisingly short at 6/1. The former Celtic manager has only recently taken a job over in Cyprus at Omonia Nicosia.
Michael Carrick is someone to keep an eye on over the next few weeks. The former Man Utd caretaker was hotly linked with Lincoln - who went for Mark Kennedy - while he's come into 4/1 for Blackburn, and features as an outsider for many other markets, including Charlton at 25/1.
Aston Villa assistant manager Michael Beale still features at 9/1, although there have been no signs that the highly-rated coach wants to leave a Villa project which he only started with Steven Gerrard back in November.
Sutton United manager Matt Gray (16/1) has enjoyed a cracking season in League Two, just missing out on the play-offs after winning promotion last summer, while Michael Appleton and Lee Johnson can both be backed out at 33/1.
