Next Bristol Rovers Manager Odds: Contenders to replace Joey Barton
Bristol Rovers are searching for a new manager following the departure of Joey Barton.
Below we run through the contenders in the next Bristol Rovers manager market.
Garry Monk
Garry Monk is the current 2/1 favourite to be the next Bristol Rovers manager, which is a surprise given that the 44-year-old has been out of work since 2020 when he was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday.
Monk has plenty of EFL experience on his CV from spells in the Championship at the aforementioned Owls, Birmingham, Middlesbrough, and Leeds, while he managed in the Premier League with Swansea.
It will be interesting to see if the forgotten Monk finally returns to the dugout after three years in the wilderness.
Ian Holloway
Of course, it'd be strange to not see Ian Holloway mentioned in the betting here.
The Bristol Rovers legend had three different spells at the club as a player, registering over 100 appearances in each spell. He also managed The Gas from 1996 to 2001 and has now been back into 5/1 to return.
Holloway has been out of work since 2020 when he had quite a dramatic end to his Grimsby career.
Bristol Rovers would be getting a massively experienced manager and someone who loves the club. This could be the exact appointment they need to take them back to where they need to be.
Neil Harris
Neil Harris is also listed at 5/1 following his recent departure from Gillingham.
Harris previously led Millwall to promotion back into the Championship in 2017 after they won the Play-off Final against Bradford City 1-0.
He is a free man at the moment and it wouldn't take much convincing on Bristol Rovers' end to get him in the job, but it's a quick turnaround after he was sacked from Gillingham three weeks ago.
Steve Cotterill
Next up is Steve Cotterill, 8/1, who most recently left Shrewsbury in June of this year. The 49-year-old has been offered a return to management after Cheltenham Town enquired about his services, but he turned them down. Perhaps he was waiting for a better offer but we’re none the wiser.
Cotterill is a seasoned veteran in the English Football Leagues with a League One trophy with Bristol City, a League Two trophy with Notts County, and even a third division play-off win in 2002.
This could be the exact appointment they need to get the players back on their side. A man with heaps of knowledge of the game and countless experiences as a manager stemming all the way back to 1995.
