Andrey Rublev is defending champion in Monaco having beaten Holger Rune 5-7 6-2 7-5 in the 2023 final, but he will face a fierce battle to retain his title with some big names involved in the draw.
Novak Djokovic is the top seed while Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are expected to be among his chief competitors.
Rafael Nadal, an 11-time champion in Monte Carlo, was expected to make his return to action in this tournament but he has withdrawn from the event as he looks to return to full fitness after a hip injury.
Monte Carlo Masters Tips
- Carlos Alcaraz to win the Monte Carlo Masters @ 15/8 bet365
- Jannik Sinner to win the Monte Carlo Masters @ 3/1 bet365
Top seed Djokovic will attract plenty of attention in Monte Carlo but there are reasons to oppose the Serbian at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament.
Djokovic's court time has been limited in 2024 and the 36-year-old has appeared in only two events.
The first was the Australian Open in which he reached the semi-finals, before an underwhelming display in Indian Wells, where he crashed out in the round of 32.
He is worth taking on and youngster Alcaraz looks a fine pick to take the title.
Alcaraz has taken time to get going this season but he won the Indian Wells Masters and reached the quarter-finals of the Miami Open last month and is shaping up nicely.
He is always a danger on clay, having won 52 of his 59 matches on the surface in 2022 and 2023, while seven of the 13 titles won by Alcaraz have come on the slower surface.
Alcaraz did not compete in Monte Carlo last season but can make his mark in France this year.
No player has impressed more on the ATP tour than Sinner this season.
The improving Italian has lost only one of his 23 contests this year and landed his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.
That was followed by tournament wins in Rotterdam and Miami and he is another contender for the title.
Clay is not the Italian's favourite surface but he still reached the semi-finals of last season's Monte Carlo Masters with wins over decent players in Hubert Hurkacz and Lorenzo Musetti.
He is a much more reliable player 12 months on, though, and it will take something special to stop Sinner's formidable run as he eyes glory in this ATP Masters 1000 event.
Already this season Sinner has beaten Djokovic, Alcaraz and Daniil Medvedev in various tournaments and he looks well-placed to make an impact again.
