We’ve decided to side with one player from either side being carded in Sunday’s derby, starting with Bruno Fernandes. Only three players in the entire division (Tyrone Mings, Junior Firpo, and James Tarkowski) picked up more yellow cards than Fernandes last season, with 10.
To put it bluntly, Fernandes gets on many referees' nerves. From moaning, diving, to blatant petulance, I feel Fernandes is constantly walking a tightrope in forcing referees into carding him. He’s already had two in six league matches this season and despite not being carded in five Manchester derbies we think it’s time this one drops.
The other player we are targeting to find their way into Michael Oliver’s notebook is Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva. One of the best players in the league on his day, Bernardo is not typically known for his card collecting, and is still to open his account this campaign.
Last season, the Portuguese attacker was shown six yellow cards in 35 league outings for the Cityzens, and in the season prior to that he picked up five in 26 appearances. Having a bit of a deeper dive into the opponents in which his cards have come against and we were surprised to see he has been shown a yellow in three of his last six starts against Manchester United.
