Despite advancing to the FA Cup final, United had to do it via a penalty shootout after surrendering a three-goal lead at Wembley.
Coventry were in dreamland when Victor Torp poked home at the end of extra-time, but his goal was ruled out by VAR for offside. United eventually recovered and showed some composure in the shootout, but Erik ten Hag's future has been cast into further doubt after such a mediocre second-half display at the national stadium.
The short turnaround may now work in United's favour, though, with the Red Devils facing Sheffield United, who are all-but relegated after their 4-1 defeat to Burnley.
Man United vs Sheffield United Tips
The Red Devils extended their unbeaten run to three matches with Sunday's FA Cup draw, but it should have been a routine win after a blistering start.
Ten Hag's side switched off and nearly paid the price, and it is unlikely that they will improve defensively for the visit of Sheffield United.
They continue to be carved open week after week, and they cannot seem to stop teams from having success against them.
United have faced 20 shots or more in each of their last six Premier League games, and only Luton Town and Sheffield United have had to deal with more shots in the league this season.
Quite simply, teams are walking through United's midfield, and even Sheffield United should get their chances.
Chris Wilder's side have scored only 31 goals this season, the lowest in the Premier League, but they have netted in five of their previous six, and they found the net in the last meeting between the two clubs, a 2-1 win for Ten Hag's men in October.
The Blades are running out of time to save themselves, but they should be able to find the back of the net, especially when considering United's inability to keep teams at bay.
There have been a few positives this season for Ten Hag, including the form of midfielder Fernandes.
The United captain continues to produce for the Red Devils and he has scored seven in his last eight games in all competitions. As United's penalty taker, Fernandes does get more opportunities than others, but he is practically guaranteed 90 minutes on the pitch due to his importance to the team.
Five goals in his previous four outings for United suggest he is one of their only in-form players, and he will look to lead by example in what could be a hostile atmosphere at Old Trafford.
The Blades have conceded a whopping 88 goals already, and someone of Fernandes’ quality will be tough to keep quiet.
