Chelsea have already suffered one Wembley setback this season as they were beaten by Liverpool in extra time in the League Cup final.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have struggled for consistency but they have managed to draw both games against Manchester City so far this season.
The Citizens are in the ascendancy in the Premier League title race and are favourites to lift the FA Cup. Pep will be keen to ensure there is no hangover from their Champions League exit on Saturday.
Man City vs Chelsea Tips
The first of our betting angles for Manchester City vs Chelsea is for Pochettino’s side to make over 15.5 tackles in the match. The Argentine likes his teams to be proactive when out of possession and press high up the pitch. While there have been issues implementing his style this season, the desire to win the ball back quickly has been evident.
Chelsea are averaging 17.45 tackles per game in the Premier League this season. Their FA Cup and League Cup matches in this campaign have seen them average 18.25 tackles. The Blues made 20 tackles when they beat Leicester in the last round of this competition.
Manchester City face an average of 16.31 tackles this season. They have played 21 matches across all competitions in 2024 and forced an average of 18.19 tackles per game from their opponents. That does not include the tackles made by Real Madrid in extra time.
Pochettino’s side have also made plenty of tackles in their recent meetings with City. Opta credited them with 28 tackles when they drew 1-1 at the Etihad in February. Chelsea made 21 tackles when the sides squared off at Stamford Bridge.
The next part of our bet builder is for there to be over 19.5 free kicks in the match. This total includes fouls made outside of the box and offsides.
Chelsea matches have seen the second most fouls in England’s top flight this season with an average of 24.16. There have been at least 20 free kicks in Chelsea’s last six games.
Manchester City matches have seen the fewest fouls in the Premier League with an average of 19 per game but that number greatly increased on the two occasions they went toe-to-toe with Pochettino’s side. The two meetings between these sides already this season have seen 24 and 26 free kicks awarded in the match.
City’s matches have seen an average of 3.35 offsides, whereas Chelsea’s average 4.35 so expect them to make a healthy contribution towards the overall free-kick count.
Our longer odds bet builder uses the same angles as the main bet with increased lines. We are also backing Chelsea to receive at least three cards in the match.
Pochettino’s side have picked up three yellow cards in both of their matches against Manchester City this season. The Blues have made at least 17 tackles in their last five encounters with Pep Guardiola’s side with an average of 22.6.
Most importantly, this 17/2 bet builder has won in the last two head-to-heads.
