Leandro Trossard Next Club Odds: Tottenham the favourites to sign the out of favour Brighton winger

Leandro Trossard has seemingly been exiled from Brighton and Hove Albion by Roberto De Zerbi. A January move is now being forced by both the player and the club in an attempt to salvage something from this fallout.
The bookmakers have priced up his next destination and as always we’ll go through the market to talk you through the odds.
Tottenham
Spurs come in as the early favourites for the Belgian’s signature after they reportedly submitted a £12m bid for the winger which Brighton rejected. Brighton are apparently only willing to sell Trrossard for the right price but with him and the manager “not on speaking terms” you’d think they’ll accept pretty much any bid that comes their way.
Spurs have never been big spenders but the board are wanting to back Antonio Conte and if Trossard is available for a smaller fee, it’s a no-brainer for Tottenham. Trossard is a Premier League-proven player but do Spurs really need him?
As attacking options go, Spurs boasting Harry Kane, Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, and recently even Perisic has floated to that left-wing role. As good as Spurs’ frontline may be, four players as dedicated forwards is not enough these days and as well as that, something needs to change in the Spurs team as they only have two wins in their last six games in the league.
Tottenham have clearly expressed interest in the forward and the board needs to back Antonio Conte to keep him happy, this move would work perfectly for everyone: it’s a step up for Trossard, Spurs get a player in a position they need, Brighton receives a fee for someone who has been frozen out, it all makes sense.
Arsenal
Arsenal are being linked with most players that become available on the market this window simply because they are lacking squad depth. Whilst Mikel Arteta is doing a phenomenal job with the squad he has now, Arsenal could be a couple of injuries away from a total collapse.
Gabriel Jesus being injured was a big blow for the Gunners but Eddie Nketiah has stepped up when it has mattered most. Whilst Nketiah is performing well, they are still lacking some depth up top and Leandro Trossard would be a welcomed addition to the squad.
It’d be some step up for the Brighton forward and he could potentially be in the running for a Premier League title as the bookmakers have made Arsenal the odds-on favourites to win the title.
Arsenal have expressed interest in the forward and similarly to Spurs, if he is available at the right price, it’s a signing that just makes sense. Brighton will know soon they need to accept an offer as he is out of contract in the summer and he looks like he won’t be playing for Brighton again under their current manager.
Arsenal would love a backup option upfront and god forbid Nketiah picks up an injury, they have no one to fit in that traditional central forward role. In my opinion, Arsenal should be going all out for Trossard, he’s guaranteed to net you a few goals and for the small fee you will pay for him, you’re getting a player you desperately need.
Other Options
As is the case with most transfer markets these days, we have the two main players at the top and then it gets a little dicey with multiple teams being the same price as they haven’t made their interests well known.
First, we have Newcastle who are in their new money phase and appear to be linked with every name under the sun. Newcastle are not finding goals hard to come by and with Wilson and Isak being their two options up top, you’d think they could be best investing their money elsewhere.
However, they are lacking wingers in their system and when Eddie Howe does play the 4-3-3 formation he is forced to play Joelinton on the left and Almiron on the right. These are two players that are playing fantastic but are not traditional wingers, Joelinton’s preferred position these days seems to be in midfield so Trossard signing could definitely free up that space for him.
West Ham have also been mentioned but I don’t see how this makes any sense. They were actually a much shorter price at 7/4 when the market first opened but they are now big outsiders at 8/1. Bowen, Antonio. Scamacca can all play that forward position and they have Benrahma, Cornet, Fornals, Lanzini and Paqueta who can all switch to the wings. Trossard is not a player they will need and they could do with investing in other areas.
Chelsea are being linked but this would just be absurd. They have so many players that are similar to Trossard. Felix, Havertz, Ziyech, Sterling, Pulisic, the list goes on. Chelsea need to start investing in a traditional forward after the failed signing of Aubameyang, they are too reliant on these versatile players who are proving to not be experts in the positions they are playing.
After that any Italian, French, German and Spanish clubs are mentioned but he’s not been linked with a single one of those so you are just gambling on that one. Spurs and Arsenal look the best bets if he is to go and with Spurs clearly showing interest in the forward, they may well shorten in price soon.
