Leeds is the location for a domestic dust up this weekend as Josh Taylor and Jack Catterall revive one of Europe's most high-stake rivalries following their extremely controversial first bout in February 2022.

Two years removed from the widespread incredulity of two judges scoring the fight in favour of then four-super-lightweight-world-title-holder Josh Taylor despite being outboxed and downed in the 8th, there's expectedly still no love lost between the two Brits.

Since reaching the apex of his division, Scotsman Taylor has failed to maintain a position at the summit of the sport when losing his undefeated record and ending his title reign through a unanimous decision defeat to Teofimo Lopez in October last year.
Meanwhile, Chorley's Catterall has bounced back from that unjust loss with consecutive victories over Darragh Foley and Jorge Linares in Manchester and Liverpool respectively during his wait on Taylor to show up for this rematch.

There was genuine disgust and outrage in the boxing world after that first fight's outcome when Taylor got split decision scores over Catterall in Glasgow.
A rematch has been signed and scheduled since, only to fall through multiple times. The outcome has remained as cold as it's been since that fateful night and no matter how it unfolds there are clear motivations at play for both - Taylor seeking to quieten the criticism and prove he's the better fighter by having his hand rightly raised, and Catterall wishing to correct history with a non-partisan win.
Many believe Josh to be beyond his best at this point being 33 and having withstood several tough fights. That convincing defeat to Lopez seven months ago was his only fight in over two years, meaning if he is past it then Catterall should win based on what we've seen from this matchup.
That's why we believe it pays to side with Jack, who has been the more active of the two, has an axe to grind - depending on how much stock you lend to this type of thinking - and could even benefit from his opponent's weight cut struggles.

If Taylor is unlikely to ever be in true vintage form again then this paves the way for a repeat of the first fight's script minus that unscrupulous decision.
