James Maddison Next Club Odds: Spurs odds-on to sign relegated Leicester star
Something many of us football fans didn’t predict at the start of last season was Leicester getting relegated, and with that, a flurry of transfer rumours have come in for their players.
One of those players is James Maddison who has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs for next season. I think most of us will agree that the Leicester midfielder is too good for the Championship and thus the betting sites have priced up a market for his next club.
Tottenham
Tottenham are the new favourites to sign James Maddison and if you are to go off the betting sites, this one is almost a done deal as Spurs come in as the 1/4 favourites to sign James Maddison now.
The papers are saying that Maddison has always been Spurs' top target this summer, the Athletic are now reporting that a £40m bid from Tottenham has been submitted for Maddison which explains the drastic change in the betting odds. Tottenham are still one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League and to join them instead of the now Championship side Leicester would be a huge upgrade for the Coventry-born player.
Fabrizio Romano has said that the race is between Newcastle and Spurs for the Leicester star and with Tottenham being the ones to make the first move, it looks like he could be on his way to Ange Postecoglou's new side.
Newcastle
If the betting sites are anything to go off Newcastle are in for a busy summer with their new owners set to splash the cash on multiple signings. One of those could be James Maddison if they can better Spurs' offer for the midfielder. Newcastle were previously the favourites to sign Maddison but after investing £70m on Tonali from AC Milan and Spurs pushing harder and harder for Maddison they've drifted out to the 7/2 second favourites.
Newcastle are now in the Champions League and strengthening their squad is a must if they want to remain competitive in multiple competitions and James Maddison will add some much-needed strength and structure to their midfield. No disrespect intended to their current players but they can’t really on the likes of Longstaff against Europe’s elite.
Recently James Maddison has posted an picture on his Instagram story of him hanging out with Newcastle's Callum Wilson which has convinced some Newcastle fans that the midfielder will be signing for them this summer but I don't think there's much to be said there.
Man Utd
James Maddison has been linked with Manchester United in the past on multiple occasions and whilst there is nothing concrete at the moment, some reports are saying the Red Devils have been monitoring his situation for the past few months.
However, Erik ten Hag looks to have opted for Mason Mount instead of James Maddison. The two are incredibly similar players but with Man Utd now being as short as 1/2 with some bookmakers to sign Mason Mount, a deal for Maddison looks unlikely.
Man City
I doubt many would have expected Manchester City to go in for James Maddison but the papers have said that they had a big rejected earlier this year for James Maddison and who knows, they very well could go in for him again.
Although City have squad depth in every position, Guardiola seems to be focussing on another midfielder in this upcoming transfer window and have apparently contacted Chelsea in regards to Matteo Kovacic, if that deal falls through, they could end up going in for Maddison and I’m sure the Leicester midfielder would have no complaints in joining the Premier League champions.
