Everton are winless in their last 12 top-flight home matches against Liverpool (D9 L3), their longest streak without a home victory against any opponent in their league history. The Toffees managed a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend, which leaves them five points above the relegation zone, with a game in hand over Luton who sit 18th.
Liverpool have been defeated just once in their last 26 Premier League games against Everton (W12 D13), coming out on top in four of the last five and keeping a clean sheet in the last four. Heading into the midweek fixtures and prior to Arsenal’s meeting with Chelsea on Tuesday, The Reds sit second in the table behind the Gunners on goal difference, while Man City sit a point behind with a game in hand.

Wednesday’s game will be Jurgen Klopp’s final Merseyside derby in charge of Liverpool. The German boss has won nine of his 16 league matches against Everton, with no Reds manager ever winning as many as 10 league Merseyside derbies in history.
We think Klopp’s side will come away with the three points, but for our first selection we are backing Mo Salah to get his name on the scoresheet. The Egyptian has been involved in six goals in his last five league matches against Everton, scoring five and assisting one. Salah bagged a brace when the two teams met back in October and can do so again here.
Ashley Young could have conceded numerous penalties on Sunday and took to X (formerly Twitter), to haunt Nottingham Forest with a post saying ‘Cry me a river’. Young was shown two yellow cards when he faced Liverpool six months ago and could struggle once more against Luis Diaz. The former Manchester United man is the first of two players we are siding with to be carded.
The second of those is Wataru Endo. The Japanese midfielder has performed well in his first season in England but he has racked up the joint most yellow cards for Liverpool along with Darwin Nunez having been shown eight. Seven of those cautions have arrived in Endo’s 16 league starts and combining him and Young to be carded and Salah to score pays 22/1.
